McGarrah family of Americus, GA

by

Edwina, found your post tonight and am related to you through Samuel McGarrah's sister, Martha McGarrah. Martha married Peter Fleming Ragan and later moved to MS where they settled and died there. My aunt spoke of "Uncle Sam" many times and knew him when she was a child. She was born around 1895ish and is now deceased. I have a good bit of McGarrah family information and would like to exchange what I have with you. I have a lot of gaps in my data base and would like to fill those out.

Please contact me via e-mail: martybilld@att.net

I start with William McGarrah, Sr. of Ireland that was granted 350 acres of land in SC in 1775 by George III of England. He had sons; William, Jr., Col. George, Moses, John, Bernard, and James. There may have been others and surely there must have been girls as well, I just don't know. It is possible William Sr. was married more than once.

Col. George McGarrah and his son William moved to TN where twin sons, George and John (aka Jack) were born in 1804. From TN they moved to MO and eventually to AR. The twins later moved to TX. John got the gold fever in 1849 and went to CA and died in Sonora, Mexico on the return trip home. Of course, the other McGarrahs moved to GA. As you do, I descend through Moses > James Moses/Elizabeth Croxton > Martha McGarrah/Peter Fleming Ragan (my g grandparents).

I will anxiously await your response.

Thank you and kindest regards,

Bill Davis
