>Perhaps I wasn't clear enough about the part that says "modify" - I won't judge about Kevin's (since even you admit to not really know about
it), but the only part there I might consider "trainer-like" is the "transfer to other computer with different name" function (I suspect that might
qualify - but even then I wouldn't call it the main purpose of that program).
Personally I won't call transfering a character as even CLOSE to be a trainer, but that is me
I may be sort of "old" in my opinions here, but I tend to sort of think about what trainers used to be, long ago on the C64, Amiga or whatever. They usually was just that "trainers", that is, they gave you unlimited ammo or whatever so that you could for example reach all the way to the end of games and so on. In much, they did more or less ehat cheat codes do today in most games (at that time, multiplayer at the most was two people playing simultaneously on the same screen). It then sort of evolved into being editors of save files and thus having more functions. I still is of the opinion that there is nothing bad abotu such programs or the use of it AS LONG AS it is for your own private use. The problem is really comming from modern multi player games where it helped you cheat against other people. I don't think anyone can really object at anyone doing whatever they want (well, within limits) with their own game at home, or in singel player or even for example in Diablo multi player with a character or game that is never in any way used playing with others. As such, I believe, even that such programs may be good, as it lets you do quire a lot of thing syou could not do otherwise. AN example would be when I used to play DOOM. I had beaten the game in countless ways and times, yet like to for example, play on the hardest difficulty but giving me all weapons and full ammo at the start.
The BIG drawback and problem is that it is also possible to use such program to cheat in multi player games like Diablo. THAT is in my opinion the problem and the bad thing.
WIth that in mind I tend to think of a trainer as something that in the case of Diablo, would modify your character in any ways, or even modifying the monsters or other aspects in some way. SImply saving characters does thus not fit in what I usually thik of as a trainer although it at least for Diablo seem to be a common feature added as well, but I guess that is mainly due to Blizzard stupid way of locking your character to a specific computer. Thus in its present form I would not consider for example Stu's "trainer" as a trainer as if I remember correctly, only have save and restore functions in various ways. I similary do not group things like auto-kill, crahs and other purely offensive cheats or messures against other people as a trainer, I call that pure cheating (although I can see why one should be able to call it trainer anyway).
So, in my book, cheating, trainer and other programs or tools are different things. Some may be all, others only for example a tool or a trainer. Just because it is POSSIBLE to use them for say cheating (really cheating to me is basically to cheat other people (directly or indirectly), if you do something that only affect your self, I don't care). Thus a trainer to me is not nessecarilly cheating, similary. what Bobbafet call a trainer, to me is also in part not a trainer but pure cheating.
I think people have different references though, take a common 12 year old child who was not even born when I used my first trainer, to them, of course, trainers may be synonymous with god mode, auto kill, crash code and other multi player cheat and abuses, to me it is not though.
Well, just my opinion, anyone can trash me to pieces for it, feel welcome
>Well, just to make you happy a quote from Rand'al (or doesn't he qualify as a "mod maker" because RS was cancelled?):
Actually I am neither happy or unhappy, it was just my opinion on your quote. Feel free to quote Rand'al instead in the future, personally I don't really care as I allready know that is the intent with the quote.
As for how much the mod was Rand'als na dhow much was Stu, well I have absolutely NO idea, but I would consider from what I heared Rand'al say in forums and on bnet that it seemed Stu was the one actually
making the mod, but I can be wrong. I have no idea.
>PS: "hack" as defined by the "Jargon File 4.0.0":
Hmm, yeah, I got that file somewhere on my computer
