Last eve we listened in on a CE service with a subject of Love for All.
A man gave his experience that he had last week. He said he had a dream that he had committed a horrible deed. So Horrible that it woke him up. and there God showed him plainly how If we commit even one small offence, we are as evil as the worst violaters of the land.
He brought out, how can we truly love others unless we recognise that we are capable of and are guilty of sinning in ways that are in our eyes little things, yet to God are just as sinful as any.
I put that in my own words because I was not writing when I was listening in. But he pointed out some very valid points. especially things like it is easy to love those we like and want to be with but what about loving those that are considered unlovely, those that we think are not our equal, good enough, or whatever?
Fri eve we were also priviledged to hear a singing group that is well known in the US especially among plain communities. and as we were there listening to them, their leader paused in the middle of the service to tell some of his life history in the community where he was born and raised and admitted to grave sins that he had committed, including fathering a son, while he was not married and running from his sin because he was afraid, and how he turned to the bottle in his rebellion. he introduced his son to his family and the community and asked the community to forgive him for his sins. He has had a long time of christian service but was not accepted in the local community because many were holding him because they felt that he had not cleared his life here. at the end of the service I watched in awe as the largest assortment of mennonites, amish, plain people and ordinary folks that I think I have ever seen at one time, came together and took communion. I truly had to wonder how many of them could be expelled from where they belong for that very thing they were doing. Is that what true forgiveness and love is about?
Is there so much stock put into a service called communion and being perfect and cleared by a group of men to be able to partake of that priviledge, that somewhere, some how, we have forgotten the vital beginning, That all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. All we like sheep have gone astray, all men are worthy of damnation. Let God be the judge and every man a lier.
What is in your heart and soul? What is in mine? Are our hearts full of true love for our fellow man or is it full of bitterness and heart ache? Are we keeping God there, asking forgiveness for our sins, resting in his precious assurance of salvation or are we living a life that is led by men or our own self will?
When you rise for the day, Whom will you serve?
VEry good post. LL. Communion is so much more then what we use to believe. It is to bring people to the Lord of Lords and to become one with Him. That is on an individual basis and entirely a heart matter like you said. calledoutPTL
