It's a remarkable phone call from a 13 year old boy to Houston radio station KSBJ FM 89.3.
It's so profound, the station has it posted on their website.
I have never met a 13 year old with that kind of perspective. I certainly know that at 13, I was barely capable of rational thought(other than cars, girls, and rock music). I have met many 23, 33, and 43 year olds without that level of maturity and insight.
OS, I suppose that could be possible but I tend to doubt if it was scripted. It would be hard to put the emotion in there like he did. It sounds to me like a young man that has some wonderful parents that have taken the time to teach their son all they can about life and that God is interested in the everyday happenings.
I'm not that familiar with cows and farms and stuff, but do families let the kids "put the cow down themselves"? that sounded a little out there to me.
Paris
I think it is quite possible. when I was 13 or 14 I well remember having to put down a dog that bit Grandma and another time a crippled calf. Both a story in itself I do realize a lot has cchanged in the last few years. But I suspect that could be a true experience. I certainly did not look on it with the same wisdon but after all I was and likely still am a slow learner.
Staged?
I hardly think so?
Do farm kids put down their own animals at that young of an age?
Depends on the child, the upbringing, the sensitivity, the maturity, the family.
My brothers, my husband and my sons were all doing those kind of things at a younger age than that.
At 13 our daughter refused to leave her grandmother's side and stayed by her bed until she died, after caring for her nearly every day for 5 months, along with the rest of us. At 18 she went to work at the Manor in Ks and we were told that it is highly unusual for one that young to have such good repore with those that live in the Manor and to have as much respect and care for the elderly as she does. Now at 22 she has finished out her first yr as a teacher by standing with the family as they buried her student.
In all Honesty I would believe that that young man has learned life at a young age and knows what true responsibility is. If it was his own calf, he obviously felt responsible to not make someone else do his sad work and did it himself.
Not every kid is out partying at that age. A lot of us had a lot of resposibility and were expected to hold our own and work well by then.
the year I turned 13, we married off my aunt that was 10 yrs older than me, kept my grandfather for 4 mos till he died from Cancer, lost a sibling, and my mother had 4 major surgeries in 3 mos time, during which I was responsible for all household duties along with going to school. Sounds like a fairy tale, right? Unfortunately it all happened in 12 months time.
Truly OS, there are 13 yr olds that think that old already.
And when we are younger than you, we think at such an old age it's scary
