A friend called me today and told me that he recently observed a small Massey Ferguson tractor pulling a tandem axle cattle trailer parking at the bar and grill named Chili's. A bushmaster dismounted from the the little MF, went back, and opened the gate, and about fifteen or so bushmasters with wives got out and went to dine. dang!...but remember, Jesus said if you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you, so buck up boys and girls and suffer your self-inflicted agony for Jesus.
The power of religion is fascinating, and its affect on the mind is horrifying.
What a hilarious sight to behold... wished I could have seen that.
Well Scott; I've got about 10 minutes and I leave for a "religious service". Now, I prefer to call it a worship service, teaching hour and/or a fellowship consociation.
If I must drive my Massey for Jesus then how can you drive that Town-Car Scott that's parked right there beside my Massey and still think that you're not a very proud man?
There's home-made pride and then there's real and damaging pride that keeps the mind preoccupied with good and evil. This pride developes a sin-consciousness rather than a consciousness of Christ and His righteousness! Our religious pride focuses upon our sins while His type of humility is focused upon His righteousness!
Real pride is self-consciousness and that focuses upon one's sin instead of upon the answer which is His righteousness.

<<< This pride developes a sin-consciousness.... >>>
I guess that pretty well sums it up. Self-examination is basically akin to picking lint out of your naval with a 4x magnifier, or bored monkeys on a hot Sunday afternoon inspecting each other for ticks, or even each others hind ends.
Actually Hank, my friend and I have a well-established history of thinking these kinds of things were funny, but in this case, it didn't seem so funny. It seemed rather pitiful.
I cannot wrap my mind around the thought of having a wife who I cherished, respected, and esteemed, and pulling her to Chili's in the back of a stock trailer. My mind bounces of that thought...try as I may to keep it centered.
Scott-man have you ever done stand-up comedy? You may do even better at that than at Rocket Science although I suspect you did well there also. The dignity of something was certainly at stake in there somewhere.

I remember being a Mennonite and looking at the Amish and their things, should I say a little conscendingly? I wondered if [we] were doing just anything at all as Mennonites that others may see as being ignorant or even unimportant.
The Massey syndrome is altogether unaware of Scott or Hank or I viewing anything untoward or out of the way. This is one reason they can walk up the sidewalk into Chili's just a-smilin with their wives smelling just alittle like cattle, possibily! I've been around those trailers.
While in the forest one sees only the trees among all the smiles. It's fun almost to being silly to all act and look alike you know.
Scott, your last two posts are hilarious. Sometimes I have thought of the Holdemans as being like monkeys..go to a social gathering and immediately there's several discreetly or not so discreetly examining and probing through whats on your feet or legs or head, etc.
Sorry to disappoint you Hank but depending on the breed of bushmasters, that definitely was not a joke.. there just might be some farm group around here that would go for a ride like that for fun, but depending on the denomination that was the real thing. You ain't seen nothin till you have lived in real true Amish/Menno country.
Hank, I'm sure these bushmasters were doing it for a joke.
No, It was their mode of transportation. It was cheaper than hiring a person with a van. Trust me, they did not even think of it as a strange thing. In fact, it really was their "limo". Much faster than a horse and buggy or a bike.
