1896 conference calling of ministers

8. Calling of Ministers
We believe in the mediate and immediate calling of the ministers. We believe that Moses and the prophets were called directly, and believe that Christ Himself chose the apostles, sending them out to preach the gospel and organize churches. We believe that God called Paul directly without the instrumentality of man into his office, as we see in Galatians 1. We do not consider the laying on of hands on Paul in Acts 13 an ordination into his office, but an imploration of blessing for the special calling. We hold and believe that the Lord chose the apostle immediate when the Church was in good standing, and so much the more would He do so when the Church is in a darkened condition to confirm his promise, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”.
According to the testimony of the Scriptures, that after a Godly evidence and decision of the Church, and by scriptural examination, ministers should be chosen and ordained into the office by laying on of hands. In case through prayer and fasting a decision can not be brought forth, then in the most extreme need it is permitted to choose by lot.
We also believe that the gifts of the ministers are revealed (although not in every instance), through the spirit of revelation, at the time of ordination by the laying on of hands; the spirit of revelation is the “witnesses of Jesus” We also that the Lord has in a measure imparted unto us the “witness of Jesus” the spirit of revelation.
We do not believe that women are called to the office to preach the gospel; neither have we any proof in God’s Word that they did.
According to the principle of creation and the result of the fall of man, women are to be in subjection unto their husbands, and not permitted to teach, for it is unbecoming for a woman to speak in public meetings. Women and virgins may prophesy in family circles and labor for the Lord Luke 16:13-16; Acts 1:24-26 1Cor. 12; Eph 4; 1 Tim 1:18; 3;4:14 2 Tim 1:6; Rev 19;10
9. God's United Church.
We believe in one united Church of God, a true, organized, visible Church of God, which constitutes the true believers, which is a pillar and ground of Truth, unto which she is called for a light unto the people. John 17; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4; 5:23; 1 Tim. 3:15; Heb. 12:22-23; Rev. 1:11; 2; 3; 12:1.

John 17;
17:1* ¶ These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2* As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3* And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4* I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5* And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6* ¶ I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
7* Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
8* For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9* I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10* And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11* ¶ And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12* While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13* And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
18* As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19* And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20* ¶ Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21* That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22* And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23* I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24* ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25* O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26* And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
18:1* ¶ When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

1 Cor. 12;
12:1* ¶ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2* Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3* Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4* Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5* And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6* And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7* But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8* For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9* To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10* To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11* But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12* ¶ For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13* For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14* For the body is not one member, but many.
15* If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16* And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17* If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18* But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19* And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20* But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21* And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22* Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23* And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24* For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
25* That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
26* And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
27* ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28* And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29* Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30* Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31* But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
Eph. 4; 5:23;

4:1* ¶ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2* ¶ With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3* Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4* There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5* One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6* One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7* But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8* Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9* (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10* He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11* And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12* For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13* Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14* That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15* But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:√4:1* ¶ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2* ¶ With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3* Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4* There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

10* He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11* And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

15* But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:16* From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17* ¶ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18* Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19* Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20* But ye have not so learned Christ;
21* If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22* That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23* And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24* And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25* Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26* Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27* Neither give place to the devil.
28* Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29* Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30* And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31* Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32* And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
1 Tim. 3:15;
15* But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Heb. 12:22-23;
22* But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23* To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Rev. 1:11;
11* Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
REV 2; 3;
3* And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Rev 12:1.
12:1* ¶ And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve

Re: 1896 conference calling of ministers

August 6 2008, 6:23 AM

Now I didn't get or even look up the verses 16:13-16; Acts 1:24-26 1Cor. 12; Eph 4; 1 Tim 1:18; 3;4:14 2 Tim 1:6; Rev 19;10 because they are actually and allegedly suppose to be to prove that women cannot "preach" and I don't care to go there. I didn't look them up.

Anyway, I want you to notice the verses that are actually quoted have nothing to do with the actual call of the minister according to the bible.

They state their belief, and then quote bible verses that have noting to do with the bible call of "ministers"

This is what conference is for, because the idea of conference is to turn truth into a lie, and idolize the lie they make or "idea" to make it true. Conference of course is absolutely unnecessary except to build a legal idol to hold property. Any action that would attempt to bring man to subject to that legal idol is a sin, therefore almost all conference law in the book is made to build idolatry. But instead of looking at their false doctrine lest look at "true doctrine".

Acts 15:22* ¶ Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

Now notice there are "apostles" These men were hand picked by Christ and Judas fell from their number.

There are "elders" and these men are people that have "youngers" they are the older men in the faith based on age and other qualifications.

And then there is the "whole church"

The problem with the study of how a man becomes a "minister' is that in order to understand it, you must also be willing to admit that you did it wrong to become one. Also the tendency of man is to have a spirit that says "it is ok but not in my backyard". Meaning once you build your house you want to zone the neighbors from being able to do the same thing! Their type and shadow is found in the family called Levi for their treachery in keeping others out by miscarriage of justice knows no bounds.

So in order to know what a minister is, you should look up the word in the original.

in this verse for instance, and most verses dealing with the word "minister"

Mt 20:26* But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
The word "minister " means

1249 diakonov diakonos {dee-ak'-on-os}

probably from an obsolete diako (to run on errands, cf
1377); TDNT - 2:88,152; n m/f

AV - minister 20, servant 8, deacon 3; 31

1) one who executes the commands of another, esp. of a master,
a servant, attendant, minister
1a) the servant of a king
1b) a deacon, one who, by virtue of the office assigned to him
by the church, cares for the poor and has charge of and
distributes the money collected for their use
1c) a waiter, one who serves food and drink

For Synonyms see entry 5834

I could get a hundred (hyperbole) more verses to prove the meaning but this suffices.

The minster is a deacon, and his task is assigned by "whom"? Notice it is assigned by the church? He is to serve. There are two types of "diakonos" one is for spiritual food as timothy was 1Ti 4:6, and the other was as Steven was to serve physical tables.

That is all there is to it. Very simple they are servants of the congregation and are subject to the congregation.

And they accept the job by consent, willingly laying down their authority as kings and priests to become "love slaves" subject to their elders.

1Ti 5:1* Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

Once you understand the job description of the minister, it is easy to understand how they become one.

Re: 1896 conference calling of ministers

So what is this mediate, and immediate thing really all about?

Well first of all mediate means with a mediator, or elector, whereas the immediate means naturally by God.

What they are saying is they believe God raises up natural "talent" as Paul, and that the church also gives gifts of ordination by the "laying on of hands".

Now we see the laying on of hands in

1Ti 4:14* Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Notice however who does it? It is the body of elders! Or the presbytery! And not the body of ministers! This is because they are giving him a conditional job of servant-hood, and can withdraw it at will.

And while we are at it the doctrine of laying on of hands is actually a doctrine:
Heb 6:2* Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

So it should be studied and understood throughly. If I lay my hand on you, then you are acting in my stead, but because of that you of necessity must subject yourself to me. It is like a power of attorney, and can be withdrawn by the giver without consent of the receiver.

Kinda simple and sort of rings the bell too huh?

____

So what of the immediate call? Now to understand this call JH heard voices to set up a new true church, and in fact in the time that he heard that call the United States just past the act of 1871, and the 13th and 14th amendment which legalized corporations, and made the United State a corporation. Many of the "cultish beginnings" of the various religious movements were founded in this time frame after the civil war.

Jh knew he had a call, but he simply did not study the truth, or have a desire to knwo the will of god regarding the bible system of authority. there is simply no glory to a man in the true bible way, for the glory goes to God with a cool life to the man but not much authority over others.

It will be a revealing study in glory if he knew and did it his own way or really didn't know.

I do know however, that I have pointed out the verses regarding the authority of the elders over the ministry to certain ministers in the H and to the laymen in there, and because of that foolish act on my part have suffered many attacks on my character by them that eventually led me out of that hell hole of stolen jurisdictional mayhem.

Since Jh wanted to be a minister but couldn't get a unanimous church call, and since he didn't realize the senior qualified elders actually all have the first right to "preach", he set the immediate call up to protect his own authority.

And that is what this whole decision is about. The H absolutely does not recognize an immediate call in anyone, and hasn't ever since JH.
