I have been blessed and touched by the Holy Spirit many times with communion with the wine and bread. I have never had a special experience with foot washing. Has anyone??? And if you did, would you share it? I found to much humor in watching people during this process of foot washing then any spiritual blessing. calledoutPTL

footwashing

The blessing I have received in my church from footwashing is to see "Joe the plumber" getting his feet washed by "Joseph the doctor." We wash each other's feet as Jesus told His disciples to do. I think it is a bigger blessing than lining up for the deacons and ministers to do it all. We call it "the ordinance of humility," realizing that the act of foot washing in Bible times was only done by alien servants - it was even beneath Jewish servants! It is a wonderful reminder that we are all equal at the foot of the cross.

Thanks Galen for answering. Another question for you then is this: Do you serve each other communion as well instead of the deacons and elders? calledoutPTL

Galen Miller was the only one that answered this question. By omission, I conclude that there arn't that many for the holdemans and others. calledoutPTL

I wash the feet of some bare footed friends children from time to time. Couple of boys and they really get there feet dirty. Its a joy to put them up on the sink counter and wash there feet.

The Aylmer R's Pastor was to disorganized to have communion and foot washing regularly. I think they had it once here in 5 years and I was out of town. Other than that they have it in main meetings once a year and those meetings are in the US of which I am banned.

footwashing

Calledout;

I too have found footwashing to be more real when the saints wash each other's feet rather than the legal type of idea where the leaders do this to all.

I think the important thing here is that this is the symbol of sharing, edifying, and exhorting one another along the dusty pathways of life.

On the light note; this symbol is only for the time span from June to Dec. at our house. There's a reason for this; each Christmas season my little girl [who is now 13] takes red and green finger-nail polish and paints every other toenail of mine the respective color. It takes til June to grow it out! You think I'm going to go to a footwashing in those months? It's my little one's tradition and I hope she does it until she's eighty. I love it!

No, the bread and the juice are distributed to the members by the deacons and elders. The blessing of this time for me is the heartfelt testimonies of God's blessings and care given by mwmbers while the emblems are being passed out. (we practice open communion where anyone who has received Bible baptism is welcome to participate. I believe I read that you have been baptized the Biblical way, so you would be welcome to join us for communion!)

Thanks for the invite Galen. Actually I think that communion should be in the homes by married couples or when other believers meet together and all feel the need to have communion with out Lord and Master as well as each other as well as communion in a corporate setting as church. calledoutPTL

I have no problem with that, but Jesus said "what I have done for you, you should do for each other." The context here is that it was a lowly servant's job and Jesus graphically displayed what He had said "to be great in the kingdom of God, you must be a servant." To have doctors washing the feet of janitors etc. is a great reminder that we are all equal at the foot of the cross.
