Cameras allowed??

Unity? Oneness? Why then the difference from congregation to congregation? We gave our family picture to a H couple that we were making friends with from a very conservative congregation in South/Central Canada. They returned it saying they could not have pictures of people. We were GOOD friends.

When our daughter joined them 9 months ago ( another mostly conservative H group in South/Central Canada) she gave all her pictures to us, there were LOTS! Lately, she asked for a picture of her baby brother, accepted a grad picture of her 17 year old brother, posed for a family picture with us and is waiting for a copy of it. She has these pictures displayed on her dresser. Also, one of a different non-H friend. Appparently, its up to the individual she says...since when? Yet, she is supposed to get the camera eye in her cell phone punched out...don't know if she has yet, she even took a few pictures with it...then erased them.

On the other hand, we have friends from eastern Canada whose son has a REAL camera and is allowed to have it! He has joined the church probably about a year + ago.

What is the deal with all this! Our daughter told us in the beginning she liked the H because they had unity that they were all the same from one congregation to another..what bogus! How come so much diversity?

that is the 20 million dollar question and when you have it all figured out and have a direct answer, please make sure you let the rest of us all know because we sure would like to.

KS:

The 'perfect unity' is just a mantra that they have been taught to repeat, unthinkingly, and it really means absolutely nothing. It's something they claim to have and no other church on earth has this. Like just about all of their beliefs it doesn't stand up well to scrutiny. But that's how things usually are with cults. The members are brainwashed into believing that 'perfect unity' exists although I bet 90% never actually stop to think about what it means or what they are saying. Hopefully your daughter will be waking up and smelling the coffee soon and getting herself out of that evil empire.

Your daughter just validated 1 Cor 11, i.e., about the emotional, sentimental female mind being "covered" for its own protection.

Your right. They absolutely don't. Because if they stop and think they will start questioning the church and most are scared to even start down that road because it leads to being deceived. We have been questioning the church and its hilarious how people come and talk to you and when you tell them what you think they have no answers. You can see them telling themselves that they can't start thinking about it because they'll be deceived, but yet they really do agree with you in their hearts if they do think about it. The problems is that they have been taught that to question what they have been taught will send them to hell. It really is sad!

As far as the camera (and many other things go) there is no such thing as unity. I lived at a congregation once where it was better to buy a blackberry phone than one with a camera. So they went and bought a Very expensive phone when they could have got a camera phone free. Or yes, if they buy a camera phone they must somehow disable the camera. The congregation we live by now says very little about camera phones and they are very common.

Their "unity" is just something that sounds nice but really exists in very few areas.

There is unity in spirit. And in essentials. Not in details. You guys just love to pounce on us for being clones and then whenever we aren't clones you accuse us of not having unity. Be realistic.

Don't you people get it? They're unified in that they accept the lack of unity from one congregation to another. That way when they find out the congregation down the road approves of cameras they can move where they will find "greater" unity. See, they have degrees of unity so it all actually works really well.

I'd say we are all far to critical of the holdemans. Don't they deserve a break from our constant criticism and nit picking? After all they are a peace-loving people who only wish the best for everyone, including the people they've expelled in love. As MonteMan says, lets get realistic and start seeing the Holdemans for what they really are.

Scott, I'm infernally tired of your obsession with everything relating to the "femine" including sticks of wood, coffee mugs and calculators or whatever your focus may be on any particular day. And for __________ sake don't come back at me and say I'm responding from a feminine perspective. This time I'm responding from the masculine side of me, you know with that little nubbin I possess that didn't mutate into the mighty penis.

uhumm....

Anyway back to the point!

The holdys are a neat people in many ways, just like the democrats are a neat people in many ways!

And I agree that it can get to nit picking about their inconsistent "unity". But they do have unity in their unwillingness to look at a problem from the standpoint of any world view that allows them to be wrong.

Ac 5:9* Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?

The punishment of the innocent for the reward of false conference held, fear based unity is a theft of Godly love, and in many ways not much different that the lies held by Ananias, For the Holdys have sold their field and offered part of it to the Lord but they hold back the part that requires only discipline that arises out of willful bible sin, and instead put in an idolatrous interpretation of discipling anyone that would dare question authority that is actually subservient to the one that is the object of the discipline.

This "unity of spirit" is a unity of anti-Christ spirit and little different that what you would have if you taught the children ruling over the parents was Godly. It is wholly ungodly, unnatural, and evil beyond comprehension. May God place a curse on all those that love that type of confusion.
