The movie is incredible. It is about the cover up of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. If you replace the robes and gold chains with zippered bibles and hanging beards, guess what you have? The parallels of stonewalling and unstoppable power and deceit and passing the buck are frigging unbelievable. Watching this movie was like reliving the last five years of my life.
One line from the script is this:
"The underlying disease here is absolute power".
Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Why is there no concern but only silence when Holdeman members know that this power is corrupting under their very noses, or they refuse to know it when the evidence is overwhelming. This is incredibly dishonest. All systems are drunk with power. All system are dishonest. All systems have a spirit of their own. All system have a claim and a turf and will protect this claim and turf, sparing nothing or nobody.
I asked a minister recently if he felt like a servant. He told me "I must, the Bible says that". I asked him again, do you feel like a servant? He said "I need to". I asked him the third time and he was silent. I guess to his credit he was not willing to lie to me....
"We don't, and never will accept authority unless it is accountable."
Are the Holdeman power brokers accountable to the people, or only to their own whim and caprice? Well? Can a lay person hold them accountable? The answer is not only no, but hell no.
