HALSTEAD - Betty J. Friesen, 78, died March 2, 2009. She was born Feb. 23, 1931, at Clayton, N.M., to Abraham and Esther (Esau) Schmidt.
On Nov. 2, 1952, she married Floyd V. Friesen. He survives. Other survivors include: sons, Galen, Jerry and Russell; daughters, Vickie Koehn and Bonnie Schmidt; brother, Merle Schmidt; sisters, Marjorie Schmidt, Joyce Toews and Mary Ann Buller, Coldwater; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church, Halstead. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead. Burial in Halstead Cemetery. Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice or Halstead Health and Rehabilitation.

Thank you for all the prayers and thoughts. The funeral is over with. She was diagnosed with cancer last July with cancer in the liver, lungs and uterus. The first round of chemo didn't help. During the second round, she had a stroke (a risk for chemo) and then it was downhill. Praise God thatshe didn't have to suffer long. She had a real cool experience of a glimpse of heaven and saw angels. That day she had the biggest smiles for everyone. God is not a respector of people and gives what a person needs at the time. calledoutPTL
