Revelations 22, wash your robes

Revelation 22

14"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

What I was wondering is what does it mean to "wash your robes".

I was talking to my son about this verse and I was thinking that the later part of it described who would not be in heaven, but my son said that it only applies to the people who have not washed their robes in the blood of the lamb, which I guess means if you haven't put your faith in his blood.

What do you think it means to "wash your robes"?

Okay, so I'm thinking that to "wash your robes" since the scripture is talking about more than one robe.

It may have to do with repentance. Since we can't eliminate all sin from our lives, because we are human, a practical amplication would be that washing your robe is about repentance.

As we go through life each day we are bound to sin, and also some choices we make in our life situations, we will sin, but if we repent our robe is clean in that instance.

Hi Paris, if we look at the context it says; "... And behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me... wash...that they may have a right to the tree of life and may go through the gates to the city."

I have always considered the washing to be in the blood of Jesus Christ. It is only His blood which cleans us up to be acceptable before God, and to enter eternal life.

I have snippets of memory from my early age, and one maybe 5 -6 yrs. old, my mother discussing with her youngest sister (my aunt Erna) that their robes were fully washed, totally white, in the blood of Christ. It was a gruesome thought to me then (as I recall) but it was years later that I came to understand what they were talking about. The blood washing is understood by faith, and was/is the vicarious sacrifice for the whole world. (1 John 2:2)

Eph 1:7; "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace."

Hank, I appreciate your input, I'm thinking it through. Neither what my son said or what I said is adding up for me.

I haven't looked in my NIV study Bible, I like to try and figure things out with just the Holy Spirit sometimes,
that sounds wrong...with the "sometimes"...

The Old Kings James version of Rev,22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. - Do you think that obedience is a key element here? calledoutPTL
