People that take the responsibility on themselves of preaching, leading in religious or spiritual matters, should know human nature across the whole scope of human activity. They should know how people will react, what people say means, what people do tells them. They should know of the prominent people of the world - those in business, entertainment, government, religion, art, culture, race. They should also understand their enemies.
Jesus was at the cutting edge of his own time. His disciples eventual dealt with government and religious leaders. In this day and age religious people seem to not even understand the nature of their own kind, let alone anyone that's not like them.
Brent, Don't you think that's because they are taught to preach too? Jesus did not teach the 12 to preach but be did teach them to pray. We tend to preach not teach and pray for instead of teach to pray.
Brent, I myself couldn't follow that one without knowing what I was thinking!
What I meant was that the religious spend their time preaching and teaching others to preach the same point of view. Their congregations only learn to preach like them, what they hear. They can only see within their teachings. Help to change will need to come from without. Likewise those only of the world have the same problem. Does not the Bible pull this out? Is this not why Jesus himself came to earth. Yes He was the savior. Help from outside.
