HI SHirley

I don't know that I will buy the book, I usually get the library to get them for me, but I would be interested in reading a few excerpts if you don't mind posting them? and perhaps a small report on what the book is about?

Comon' Fred, that's crass. Buy the book. Writing is hard work. It's like someone setting a nice meal in front of you and you say, "I may taste it, but I'm not eating it and I'm sure not paying for it."

"Writing is hard work."

You got that right. One thinks they can just sit down and write a book. But there's the matter of ones own style, worthy subject matter, the understanding of that, and ones maturity. All this and more if one wants to write an enduring book.

os, if you want to sell your product.... you set out tastes of it, have you never been at costco?

pschhh!

This platform (the forum) is probably the most widely read holdeman publication there is. If you want to sell something to the holdemans, then you better give them a taste.

I am not a holdeman, it has been so long since I have been around them I barely remember them.

I think Shirley Bukkems owes the owners of this forum(namely Fred) a free book in return for the awesome advertisement this site is for her book. This website is the most widely read publication among xHoldies and Holdies alike.I doubt if the MOT would publish an ad to this book.

Thanks Mr Gomez..

I don't care for a "free book" I was simply offing to allow her to post a few tasteful morsels for our entertainment and enlightenment, and to give possible buyers a half a chance to understand what the book is about. Frankly I suppose it has something to do with holdemanism, and her "coming out" but other than that I have no idea.

Free books don't pay the divorce lawyer fees either. Don't be so cheap Fred. Buy it.

I don't think it's cheap to ask for some excerpts from a book. If it's good, it'll sell. I've never written a book, but seems to me it's only reasonable that people want to know if it's worth reading before they buy. In this economy, who buys anything at all without knowing what they're getting? The hard work involved in writing is part of the process of it all, no guarantees that it'll sell just because it took a lot of sweat to produce it!

Clarence Hiebert's book sold much better once people became aware to some degree of it's contents. I remember my Mother not liking Clarences book at all but she had one, bought one I am supposing.

I will be ordering this book. I don't need any juicy tidbits to entice me to buy it. She is "one of us", ahem. That's all I need to know in order to be interested.

Hi Mahvelous,

Once you've bought and read the book I was wondering if I could borrow it from you. Why should we each buy a book when I can read yours? And once I've read it I'll mail it to Fred, if you don't mind.

Shirley I look forward to reading your book and applaud you for writing it.

Hi ya' all ..reading all your bits and pieces you have written about me or my book made me chuckle.
First off i wrote this book as a healing and then i thought if what i have written can inspire anyone from any walk of life to understand spiritual abuse is not acceptable in any religion than it will be only an added bonus to have people purchase it. It was not easy to write and many tears fell as i wrote reliving the memories and feelings i live through. It has been incrediably freeing to have put it on paper.I will post here what is written on the back cover of my book.

..."A raw emotional autobiography filled with events which occured in my life. Fighting for what i knew was right against a huge religious group the Holdeman Mennonites. This is my story written as a healing and believing that everything can change in a moment. It is simply about a choice."...

About the Author.
Born in the small town of Benito, Manitoba in 1965 to an English mother, Myrtle Mable Margaret Harrington and my father Herman Moses`Bercier a Metis`
my life began.I was given away at the age of three to my adoptive parents Benjamin and Tina Isaac of Shortdale, Manitoba. They were of German decent belonging to a very strict religious group the Holdeman Mennonite people. In 1994 i left this religion and began my fight for freedom.
Today i reside in the beautiful community of Westerose, ALberta living on a piece of heaven with my wonderful husband, my girls, some horses and our dog Jake.

Thankyou to all of you who bought my book already. Please make sure i have your addresses so i can mail the books to you..

Welcome Shirleylee. I don't post as much as I use to. Life moves on. In the beginning my posts were full of anger. Then I tried to change things. Then I tried to reason with... But as I stepped away it eventually returned to my relationship with Jesus. Oh, there are times when "they" get a little under my skin, like this last weekend, when It was all about the man responsible for making their church great (who really cares how much or how many?)... No mention of God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit. I pointed that out then quickly remembered whom I was speaking to...

I do have a quick observation: "please confirm with me that you are not still of the holdeman church, as they are not my favorite people. thank you .." Maybe that freeing you were talking about, putting it all on paper, is not yet complete?

So what if it's not, VK? Freedom and healing is an ongoing process. She'll get there when she gets there - if she in fact is not there already - just like you claim to have.

Re: I am the author.

well in response..what i think is very sad is so many people who have left the holdeman church have gone on to other relgions, not being able to stand on their own two feet they cling to another church or a 'better' way. i have friends i grew up with and left the church who now are great church leaders in some religion and say how powerful god is and what a different life they have ?? do they really? as far as i am concerned they are still stuck in a belief system. the fear of letting go and just being their own person is often to hard for some people. yes i say the holdenman are not my favorite people . they dont have to be. i am not bitter only saddened at how so many of them think they are gods chosen yet so many of them live hypocritcal lives. people who really bother me are intellectual people who like to pick apart what people say .these are people with an inferior complexes
i believe that we are spiritual beings in a human body, not human beings trying to be spiritual.

Some folks are willing to speak about the inconsistancies they see in life and some are willing to be quiet. Of course there are also people that speak out from fear or are quiet from fear as well. Doesn't it make a difference what motivates the speaking out? I expect that you have spoken out in your book. If someone spoke out an opposing perspective in a book of their own should they be silenced?

I'm not opposing your statement. It just caught my interest and I explored a little. Even sharp critics are interesting in that they often make me think,"did I really say that or even think that?". (you may find more then a few critics on this forum)

Shirleylee, Church and religion are not the same thing. I have not read your book and know very little about you. I was just pointing out freeing is not the same as free. Hope you can agree with that. Wish you all the success with your book and life. Jesus cuts the Holdeman's way more slack then we do. But then He also overlooks the most in me. As for the jumping from one religion group to another, believe me I understand. Sooner or later God will ask His followers to join with others.
