What's up with this?

If God intends to pour out wrath on his enemies (most people gladly accept this as fact) why would he require us to then turn the other cheek...to bless our enemies and those who curse us, and etc.? Is this not a double standard? Why would God require us to live at a higher standard than what he himself does.

I'm not sure He does. Can you prove it?

What's the matter Free are you feeling trapped?

Paris:

Why would you say you that you're not sure that he does? If God can put the smackdown on his enemies, but says we shouldn't do the same to ours, that does appear to be a double standard. Can you explain why it's not?

No, quite the contrary.

ROM 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

It's not a double standard when we aren't equals to begin with. God is sovereign. And he means what he says.

^^Thank you for saying that Maple, that's what I was thinking.

And what's with this calling it a "smack down". I always considered it God's justice.

Mark,

If God exist whom your claim is made in, you need to expand your parameters.

Your post calls into question who created the emotion of wrath and now who controls it.

Your reasoning is hardly even the reasoning of a regional god. At most it's the thinking of a confined religious group god. It makes God no bigger than religious self and the world it gropes in.

(Romans 12:19-20) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Would it be wrong for us parents to tell our children to be kind to their brother or sister even when they are mean to them, and that we as parents will do the punishing in due time when one needs it?
