New King James Version (NKJV) Titus - Chapter 1

1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,

2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,

3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;

4 To Titus, a true son in [our] common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ [fn] our Savior.

5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you--

6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

7 For a bishop [fn] must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,

9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

10 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans [are] always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."

13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

14 not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.

15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

NKJV Footnotes:
(1:4) NU-Text reads and Christ Jesus.
(1:7) Literally overseer

New King James Version (NKJV) Proverbs - Chapter 16

1 The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue [is] from the LORD.

2 All the ways of a man [are] pure in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the spirits.

3 Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established.

4 The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

5 Everyone proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD; [Though they join] forces, [fn] none will go unpunished.

6 In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD [one] departs from evil.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 Better [is] a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice.

9 A man's heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

10 Divination [is] on the lips of the king; His mouth must not transgress in judgment.

11 Honest weights and scales [are] the LORD's; All the weights in the bag [are] His work.

12 [It is] an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness.

13 Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings, And they love him who speaks [what is] right.

14 As messengers of death [is] the king's wrath, But a wise man will appease it.

15 In the light of the king's face [is] life, And his favor [is] like a cloud of the latter rain.

16 How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

17 The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

18 Pride [goes] before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 Better [to be] of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy [is] he.

21 The wise in heart will be called prudent, And sweetness of the lips increases learning.

22 Understanding [is] a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools [is] folly.

23 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words [are like] a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

25 There is a way [that seems] right to a man, But its end [is] the way of death.

26 The person who labors, labors for himself, For his [hungry] mouth drives him [on].

27 An ungodly man digs up evil, And [it is] on his lips like a burning fire.

28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.

29 A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way [that is] not good.

30 He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips [and] brings about evil.

31 The silver-haired head [is] a crown of glory, [If] it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 [He who is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision [is] from the LORD.

(16:5) Literally hand to hand

New King James Version (NKJV) Psalm 111
1 Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with [my] whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and [in] the congregation.

2 The works of the LORD [are] great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.

3 His work [is] honorable and glorious, And His righteousness endures forever.

4 He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; The LORD [is] gracious and full of compassion.

5 He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant.

6 He has declared to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations.

7 The works of His hands [are] verity and justice; All His precepts [are] sure.

8 They stand fast forever and ever, [And are] done in truth and uprightness.

9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome [is] His name.

10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do [His commandments]. His praise endures forever.

New King James Version (NKJV) Philippians - Chapter 4

1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.

2 I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.

3 And [fn] I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names [are] in the Book of Life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord [is] at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things [are] noble, whatever things [are] just, whatever things [are] pure, whatever things [are] lovely, whatever things [are] of good report, if [there is] any virtue and if [there is] anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:

12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

13 I can do all things through Christ [fn] who strengthens me.

14 Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress.

15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.

16 For even in Thessalonica you sent [aid] once and again for my necessities.

17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.

18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things [sent] from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

20 Now to our God and Father [be] glory forever and ever. Amen.

21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.

22 All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar's household.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. [fn] Amen.

NKJV Footnotes:
(4:3) NU-Text and M-Text read Yes.
(4:13) NU-Text reads Him who.
(4:23) NU-Text reads your spirit.

Re: Our Scripture for today

October 19 2009, 9:09 AM

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

New King James Version (NKJV) 1 Corinthians - Chapter 15

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,

2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.

6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.

7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.

8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God [which was] with me.

11 Therefore, whether [it was] I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.

14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching [is] empty and your faith [is] also empty.

15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise.

16 For if [the] dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.

17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith [is] futile; you are still in your sins!

18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

Proverbs - Chapter 20
1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink [is] a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

2 The wrath [fn] of a king [is] like the roaring of a lion; [Whoever] provokes him to anger sins [against] his own life.

3 [It is] honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel.

4 The lazy [man] will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and [have] nothing.

5 Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out.

6 Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?

7 The righteous [man] walks in his integrity; His children [are] blessed after him.

8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment Scatters all evil with his eyes.

9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin"?

10 Diverse weights [and] diverse measures, They [are] both alike, an abomination to the LORD.

11 Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does [is] pure and right.

12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The LORD has made them both.

Pro 20:13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; Open your eyes, [and] you will be satisfied with bread.

14 "[It is] good for nothing," [fn] cries the buyer; But when he has gone his way, then he boasts.

15 There is gold and a multitude of rubies, But the lips of knowledge [are] a precious jewel.

16 Take the garment of one who is surety [for] a stranger, And hold it as a pledge [when it] is for a seductress.

17 Bread gained by deceit [is] sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.

18 Plans are established by counsel; By wise counsel wage war.

19 He who goes about [as] a talebearer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.

20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

21 An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end.

22 Do not say, "I will recompense evil"; Wait for the LORD, and He will save you.

23 Diverse weights [are] an abomination to the LORD, And dishonest scales [are] not good.

24 A man's steps [are] of the LORD; How then can a man understand his own way?

25 [It is] a snare for a man to devote rashly [something as] holy, And afterward to reconsider [his] vows.

26 A wise king sifts out the wicked, And brings the threshing wheel over them.

27 The spirit of a man [is] the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. [fn]

28 Mercy and truth preserve the king, And by lovingkindness he upholds his throne.

29 The glory of young men [is] their strength, And the splendor of old men [is] their gray head.

30 Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As [do] stripes the inner depths of the heart. [fn]

NKJV Footnotes:
(20:2) Literally fear or terror which is produced by the king's wrath
(20:14) Literally evil, evil

New King James Version (NKJV) Luke - Chapter 3

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

2 while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, [fn] the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,

4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.

5 Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth;

6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.' [fn] "

7 Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as [our] father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."

10 So the people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?"

11 He answered and said to them, "He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"

13 And he said to them, "Collect no more than what is appointed for you."

14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, "And what shall we do?" So he said to them, "Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages."

15 Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ [or] not,

16 John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

17 His winnowing fan [is] in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."

18 And with many other exhortations he preached to the people.

19 But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, [fn] and for all the evils which Herod had done,

20 also added this, above all, that he shut John up in prison.

21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.

22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."

NKJV Footnotes:
(3:2) NU-Text and M-Text read in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas.
(3:6) Isaiah 40:3-5
(3:19) NU-Text reads his brother's wife.
(3:24) This and several other names in the genealogy are spelled somewhat differently in the NU-Text. Since the New King James Version uses the Old Testament spelling for persons mentioned in the New Testament, these variations, which come from the Greek, have not been footnoted.

November 5 2009, 6:58 AM

Oxy , your sister has been and remains one of my best friends. I seriously miss the priviledge of going to see her several times a yr, since my children have moved away from her side of the country. I did get to see her here in sept at the wedding of her nephew who is also our cousin. so we must content ourselves with faxes and phone calls now.
I find it interesting that you posted that song as it was a special request that was asked of me when I was singing last sun at a blue grass hymnsing, where we even have a blind amish lady that sings and plays guitar. I have been doing that off and on for a yr or so and it has been kinda interesting to see how it goes, since I have lost a good percentage of my singing range due to Gerd damage to my vocal cords, and also the fact that my singing with accompniment ended when I was 14. but since I know a lot of older songs and we are singing to a lot of older folks, it seems to go over well.` and yes it was a solo.

to everyone:
sorry I have been slipping up on my posting but this week has been extremely stressful, busy and traumatic due to the situation that we are still in and covet your prayers, that we can be kind, loving and forgiving, no matter what gets hurled at us and stay alive while we are at it. We are both a spiritual and real life and death battle that involves family members out side of our home. Pray also for Elvis that used to post here and LM's family as we go thru this trial together.

Love and prayers, Locklady

LockLady,
I was wondering if Elvis and his mother got moved into their new place yet. Elvis wanted me to visted them when things got settled back down. Wishing you the best in your endeavor to care for them.

Oxy,
Your nice slogan "Bee Kind" reminds me of the verse "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy" May God have mercy on us, but we can't expect it, if we are not merciful.

Thank you for your comment.

The words "Be Kind" were heard frequently from my Mom when I was growing up and then also on her
deathbed.

So I use that slogan in remembrance and honor of her. It is also on my car tag.

I added the extra e to Be because a Bee stings and and the word, "kind" eliminates the sting of
unkindness. Kind of a play on words!

It seems like a conundrum to me that a Honey bee probably stings...causes pain...to protect its

mission to make "honey"...sweetness!
