Hopefully this is the right place to ask, I am new to vintage speakers and audio equipment. I just recently picked up a set of Marantz 940 Design Series speakers that somebody had out by the trash. They seem to be a high quality well built speaker so I took them home. The foam on the sub is rotted of but everything else seems ok. Hardly a scratch on them and the cloth covers are still on the front. My question is how do I go about restoring them properly so they work there best? Should I just refoam the subs or replace them? Is there any other components that should be checked or replaced? My biggest question being a newbie is what other gear should I get ie amps, reciever, etc. to make them work their best? From what I have been able to find out online they are a high quality speaker and it should be worthwhile to repair them, they were after all free! I guess the only other question is are there any other pitfalls of speaker restoration that I should be aware of? Any help would be appreciated even if I could just get some technical specs about them. Thanks.
