Hi,
I'd have to say keep checking ebay or any local garage sale around in the summer period. Did you hear the news that the Technics name is now all called Panasonic. Same company but won't show (Technics) on the audio electronics. I think it sucks. Do you know if there is a technics group on the internet. If would be nice to talk to other Technics fans. Would be a place to help one another .
All the best in finding what your looking for.

Hi Bill, I'm also from the rock. I think Brandi may be refering to SB-T40. Caught my eye because I'm trying to track down a 8" woofer for one of mine. Here of any drop an email. Thanks, Craig

Thrift Store Treasure

With the mad rush for all this integrated home theater CRAP that everyone is buying (and boy, is it), Thrift Stores, especially those in higher income areas, are invariable treasure troves of high-end audiophile stereo equipment. I got my pair of Technics SB-740's at a thrift store here in Rancho Mirage, CA about 6 months ago for $19.00 for the pair. Not only do they work perfectly, but they are in absolutely pristine condition. I saw just one of unmounted woofers on ebay for these speakers selling for $249. There is, in fact, SO MUCH audiophile equipment available in the second hand stores, I am able to pass on anything that does NOT look like it just came out of the box. If you live in or near a high income area... start hitting the thrift shops! You'll get addicted QUICKLY!

Here are some of the other items I purchased in the last 6 months by just poking around in the different thrift stores in the Rancho Mirage/Palm Desert area. ALL are in as-new condition work perfectly:

NAD 1020A Stereo Preamp $25.00
NAD 2150 Stereo Power Amp $25.00
Rotel RX-85 Stereo Receiver $20.00
SSI System 3200 Surround Decoder w/remote $5.00
Yamaha Natural Sound K-98 Dual Cassette Deck $11.00
JVC TD-V661 Pro Series Cassette Deck $9.00
Harman Kardon HD-7450 CD Player w/remote $20.00
Technics SL-Q2 Direct Drive Quartz Turntable w/extra(nib) Audio Technica cartridge $19.99
Sony ST-JX521 Digital Tuner $10.00
AudioSource EQ-Four 10-band Graphic Equalizer $25.00
Technics SB-740 Honeycomb Speakers %19.00/pr
Boston Acoustics VR910 Center Channel Speaker $7.99
Advent Baby Advent II Speakers $5.00/pr
JBL 2600 Speakers incl. stands $17.50/pr
Acoustic Research (AR) PS2052 Speakers $10.00/pr
Pioneer SE-30A Headphones w/case $19.00

These are not rare finds. Something amazing turns up at least twice per week. I've passed on at least a dozen other items just for lack of room. (Vintage Pioneer, Bose, Boston etc etc)

Happy hunting
