Alone in my den

by Sir William Ashtinghouse

One late evening, as I resided in my den reading peoms from Ogden Nash, and passing the time with a warm cup of tea. Although alone in my house, I could feel the uncanny presence of someone, or something there, in my home with me.
On several occasions i've taken notice of sounds such as footsteps walking across the wooden living room floor. And strange odors in certain areas of the house from time to time. Well, as I was saying, I was in my den reading, when I heard a strange sound comming from what seemed the walls of the house.
It sounding like something slowly dragging along the inside of the walls. Such as a drag...drop, drag...drop sound. As I quickly sat-up in my chair, straining my ears to listen, and make some sense of the matter, I heard a noise comming from the attic door right above my chair. As I quickly looked up at it I caught the site of the door being lifted straight up into the attic, then dropped! Of course! you may very well imagine the fear and unsetteling sensation in my nerves! As I arose from my chair and made a mad dash to the living room where the lighting had been much better.
Moments later, the living room, and den both, had been overcome with the strong sweet odor of roses. Although it took a while to gather my thoughts and overcome the surprise I had experienced, I still reside in the same house, and of this time, I have not experienced any other strange occurences.
Now, I'll be back shortly, I must run off, and meet the lads mudbone, and kenny the critic for a friendly drink down at the local pub. until then, talley-ho!
