The Hays County Justice Center Building in San Marcos, Texas has been haunted by the spirits of twin sisters who
had died when their car was hit by a train. Although it's known that the point of impact accured at the railroad crossing, it's unclear whether the time of death took place sometime after their car had been dragged a couple of hundred feet from the crossing.
The exact time when this tragedy took place has been lost to time, as well have the names of the twin sisters who's lives ended so tragicaly.
The story takes place sometime in the late 1940's, or early 1950's. The two sisters had been enjoying the goings on at a carnival that had visited the town. They stayed late into the evening, late until the crowds began to dwindel, and the rides, and boothes bagan to close for the night.
They began to make their way for home, and decided to speed-up the car they were in hoping they would get back home sooner, and not get into trouble for staying out much later than they had anticipated on doing.
As they aproached downtown, on what is now know as South L.B.J Street, The sound of a train's horn blared out the warning of it's aproach. Still in high spirits from their fun at the carnival experience, and determined to make it home, The girls increased their vehicle's speed, and with taunts, and girlish laughter challenged the aproaching locomotive. But their prospects of getting home, along with their young lives had been cut short when they failed to calculate the speed of the train's aproach onto the crossing, and were hit broad-side as car and train met...
...The Justice Center building is closed during the evenings, therefore there have been no current reports or stories from that place in sometime. But it was once a grocery store for many years before that. And also a department store before that as well. People who had once worked the graveyard shift as stockpersons when it was once a grocery store had often reported of voice-like whispers, in female tones, along with laughter, as if two girls were carrying on a conversation among themselves.
And the voices were always heard in the same areas of the building. The farthest inner corner of the building. The same area of the store where the train tracks run just a few yards behind it.
This is a true story, It has been told to me by my father who once worked in that grocery store when he was a young man. And knew of the accident when the two sisters lost their lives. He was one of the many people who had experienced the strange whispering voices, and laughter.
