follow the link to the Subterranea Britannica page and it's list of underground sites.
Obviously it was the stations bit that took me there first but the section on abandoned underground structures is good.
With regard to Asylums my practice was involved with the conversion of the Haywards Heath Asylum into 'Luxury Flats'. I did a lot of the surveying early on the project - a magnificent Victorian building with fantastic views South East to the downs - however one unit was formed in what was the old mortuary - when I surveyed it the marble slab used for post mortum 'investigation' and 6 refrigerated 'stiff drawers' were all still there - very creepy. I often wonder if who ever lives there now knows of it's past. Perhaps its named Mortuary Mansion or Corpse Cottage.
