WHO LOST THE CHIMP - YOUR VIEWS AND QUESTIONS

Where are they now, what happened on what day, how could we make oldbro.org better. Ideas, innovations, gear auctions, money making schemes.

Start campite/caravan/bed & breakfast bookings...

by Woolven

I think it is time to start booking the campsite now the Knight's have made the site smaller. We should take over the whole campsite! Lew and Greg are thinking about comming as it is the 40 anniversity but they don't fancy camping but are keen on some achievement!

I think bros who have booked should make a brief posting to confirm their attendance/plans.

Richard should be comming so I will travel with him in my Skoda to Nether Wasdale and share the driving. Richard will probably share my 3 man 'Blacks' tunnel tent with me! I will have to try travel light. I always take too many clothes and gear. Stuart took one large holdall one year (but borrowed some gear) and Richard takes one day pack on a weekend break to Worthing and London from Portugal to see family.

40th LD Anniversary Expedition Wasdale 2010

by Tim

Bros,

Not that anyone needs reminding but we'll be back in Wasdale next year. I guess we are all happy with Nether Wasdale and Church Stile Farm. One thing to remember is that the site does not have a great capacity and they are very careful about the rules. This means that we need to book early to gurantee our places. Sharing tents helps as they have a unit limit rather than a person limit.

Good Friday 2010 is 2nd April so most of us will be going up on the 1st or 2nd, quite an early Easter.

If you are going then post a message hear as it helps to encourage people. If you know anyone else who might be keen. Get in touch with them as soon as possible.

Cheers

Tim

Sound advice

by Nev

Annemarie, Martin Hunt and I plan to be there from Thursday evening to Tuesday morning.

The campsite booking form can be accessed from;

http://www.wasdaleweb.co.uk

This Website also gives details of other campsites, B&Bs, Hotels, etc, in the area, as well as lots of other interesting local information such as the latest rockfalls in The Lord's Rake.

We might have a higher than usual number attending to celebrate the fact that 40 years will have elapsed since our very first Easter visit to Wasdale. Should be good. Incidentally we arrived there on 2nd April 1970, so the precise anniversary will be on Good Friday - Can't be bad!

Sad news: Roy Dean's mother has died

by

I've just had a phone call from Roy advising me that his mother, Jean, passed away on 1st November. She had a long and active life bringing up Roy, Rosemary and Nick on her own own and also running a very successful playgroup for many years. I once fulfilled the role of Father Christmas for her playgroup - I had to wear a false beard, as mine hadn't turned white at that stage!

I last visited Jean just before last Christmas accompanied by a good friend of hers, Ann Hunt, mother of Martin. We spent a couple of hours together discussing many things, including remembering old friends in the 8th Worthing from the days when Roy was a Scout and then a Leader.

The funeral will take place at St. John's Church, Elm Grove, Worthing, at 10:30 on Thursday, 12th November.

As many will know, Roy has been suffering from a serious liver condition (not caused by alcohol), which restricted his lifestyle a great deal. He is now able to get out and about a bit due to improved medication.

If you wish to contact Roy and don't have his details please click on my name above to send me an e-mail, which I'll readily respond to.

Our thoughts are with Roy and Nick at this sad time.

The Ghost of GC

by The Ghost of GC

Silverwood 'boy' you spelt coming with two ms'. Write the word out 20 times and put it in you spelling book!

ps We still have the grey squirrel at '76'. He comes and collects stale bread off the patio. Sometimes the squirrel buries the bread in the garden and then he runs through the hole in the hedge to '74'. He also goes in the Cordens' garden through a hole in the trellis!

Do I purchase some nuts? (remember Judy's mum trained a squirrel to eat and collect nuts off her windowsill!)

2009 Kayaking Report...

by Woolven

Site: Goring beach, Sea Lane cafe, Goring

Weather: Approximately 10 good days of sunshine for the summer season

Tides: Good year for high tides

Kayaks: Plastic Ace Jumper (Plastic Wombat!)
Plastic Ace Slalom
Glass Fibre Gaybo Slalom Glyn,s boat (ex Arundel Factory)
Junior Glass Fibre Slalom (Lew's 2nd Hand canoe)

Comments: 1) Obviously the Glass fibre canoes are easier to eskimo roll as they are lighter
2) Most of us could still sit in the junior slalom cockpit!
3) We usally paddle all year round with our wetsuits

Achievment: 1) We surfed some small waves
2) Lew can still eskimo roll (1st time)
3) I rolled Lew's junior slalom (1st time)
4) Paul rolled the Ace Slalom (1st time)
5) Glyn did a loop tried to roll up but capsized in a Force 3 gusting 4

Injuries: I still have ongoing ligament problem on left shoulder. The shoulder was getting better but I pushed my Skoda which made it worse again.
