WHO LOST THE CHIMP - YOUR VIEWS AND QUESTIONS

Where are they now, what happened on what day, how could we make oldbro.org better. Ideas, innovations, gear auctions, money making schemes.

New Lakes policy we are introducing the accident book...

by Lakes Health and Safety Officer

1)Me lost complete right big toe nail after climbing Highstreet. This explains the swearing about my boots 3 miles from from the pub! (Could loose left big toe nail too) Should have sold them to Pastie!

2)Dave got a juisy blister on his right heel!

I guess we still call this camp cripples.

PS Dr Ali is fifty this weekend so some Silverwood bro's will be in the Lakes again soon. Dave has an ace up his sleeve with a short walk with MIA!

Risk Assessment

by Chris

Maybe in this day and age a better idea would be an ‘Accident Waiting To Happen’ book, containing the names of those ‘most likely to’, why and what steps we have taken to lessen the risks. Woolvie, just because and left at camp could be the first entry.

Here are two candidates !!!

by Tim

Its perhaps useful to re-show my pic of The Silverwood Sumo Wrestling team. Is it wise to let two men of their age and physique undertake strenuous activities like hill walking?

Only a few beers profit on the sale of Dave's VW Passat....

by Woolvie

after the MOT and MOT/Service, petrol, Friday Ad advertising for 4 weeks and the two rear bearings needing replacing. So this less my commision left Dave with £20!

Can you ever make money on cars? I once made £100 on a red Triumph Spitfire
in a month in the middle of summer. SHEPS did you make any money on your Alfa Spider you had for quite a while? So bros any other car talk??

Cheers Woolvie

ps luckily Dave made some real money on the sale of his London flat!

Cars......yawn

by Matt

You really don't want to get me started (I've bought and sold about 50 motors).
Fiat 500 Estate: best gain - bought for £10, sold for £90 (good % what?)
Alfa Spider: hard to say...Janet's brief mating of it with a Renault at a Brighton crossroads rather messes up the calculation. Probably lost a little.
BMW 330 cab: worst loss - c£9k in 9 weeks (best forgotten)

Sheps

Another oldbros old car sold...

by Woolvie

Just sold Dave's VW Passat to a guy in Broadwater. The car needed two new wheel bearings so this was reflected in the price.

Any good tips to help sell Dave's VW Passat CL Estate...

by Woolvie

I have driven it down from London to my Flat's car park in Findon Valley and we have advertised the VW two times in Friday Ad and Tesco, Durrington's noticeboard. We have had nine phone calls but only two people looked at the car and they didn't make any offers.

It is getting old (on an 'L' Plate 1994) and has very high mileage (128K)
So how long will we have to advertise it for? I think I am going to lower the price to £575 Does any one want to buy it? Any friends of friends want a VW estate car or second car for a reliable 'runner'.

ps The VW Passat has now got a years MOT but no tax.

Met Chris Brown at Findon Valley Tesco Express!!

by Woolvie

He had been over from Perth for a 2 week holiday to see his mother, sister and mates. Greg took him up to Heathrow for his return flight. He is still working in cartography and he has been back to college. Chris does not go up in the planes so often now staying office based and using mapping computers.
Chris learnt his trade from Meridian Airmaps on Lancing Business park years ago! Then he became a part of the UK 'brain drain'. It was good to see him again. Aparently I missed out on a good night down the pub.

ps Good Lakes report and photos Tim

pps Interesting website Trev!

2007 Expedition Report

by Tim Neale

2007 8th Worthing oldbros Lake District Expedition was based at Sykeside campside near Brothers water just north of the Kirkstone Pass in the Eastern Lake District. We have never camped there as a group before but have climbed in the area although not for many years. Some of us have used the campsite independently but again, not for some time.

The site has decent facilities, a shop even, and is 2 minutes walk from the Brotherswater Inn (not that that is relevant in the slightest.

Turnout was good, in no particular order we had...

Snip the dog
Philip (slim)Silverwood
Michael(not so slim) Silverwood
David (I want to be like my big brother) Silverwood
Jeremy (in love) Neale and Lindy
Timothy (in love with himself) Neale
Chris (in love with the storage capacity of his Alfa) Neale
David (slim) Frost
Linda (lighning girl 1)
Julie (lightning girl 2)
Andy Knight
Andy and Brenda Price
Chris (policeman friend of Andy's - sorry Chris I can't remember your surname)
Ian (Chris's brother)
John & Josie and cricketer playing sons Gabriel and Pierre
Neville and Anne Marie
Martin Hunt

Can't think of anyone else...oh yes my wonderful wife Hilary and my children Sally, Tessa and Heidi

We all went up High Street on Easter Saturday on a variety of routes. On Sunday we mostly did Fairfield or just Hart Crag. A crack group went off to Pooley Bridge and walked the Northern section of High Street back to Brotherswater.

Here are some pics...

My kids bouldering on the way up to High Street

Group of oldbros near Thornthwaite Beacon south of High Street summit

Rose between two thorns (tweedle dee and tweedle dum grew up)

Speech bubble cloud (Nev never taught us this one for our Meterology badge)

Uncle and nieces

The weather was good, very sunny on Saturday but Sunday and Monday brought a coldish West Wind, especially high up. There was quite a hard frost on Saturday night and It was particularly testy round the icicles.

My primus stoves played up (both ex 8th Primus 111) but I managed to create one good one from 2 duff units. I have some spares on order to set things right soon.

The pub was excellent beer and food well received.

Chris (Uncle Chris) kept himself to himself most of the time but we tried to bring himself out of himself and encourage him to mix a bit more - particularly with members of the opposite sex.

Hard Frost ?

by

I was intrigued by your reference, Webmeister, to a "HARD FROST on Saturday night"
Obviously, I'm always up for a scrap, as I'm "well 'ard", but as for any other connotations ... they're probably true !!!

Eel Tarn Race 1984

by

Just attempting a return on Trev's advice - despite my better judgement ('have been AWOL for several years due to Woolvie-dominated waffle and virtual nasties infecting our pc).
Anyway a quick shufty round the site (partly just to reassure myself that there are STILL only half a dozen "bros of the MONTH"!)bought me to the afore-mentioned race.
If it was 1984, as captioned, then my nephew, Nick, was ZERO years of age when he participated. He celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday. Shurly shome mishtake?

Pedant of Sutton.

P.S. Btw, Webmaster, your comment about stowage in CJ's Alfa made me smile - a lot.

Eel Tarn dating error

by Tim

Not sure why its captioned as 1984 - unless I coppied another page and put diff pics in and forgot the title. Anyway its taken about 5 years for anyone to spot it.

Chris managed admirably without you this year - He doesn't see quite the humour in the Alfa stowage issues as you can guess.

Carbon Dating

by Chris

This is the only sort of dating I get up to these days but after a discussion with our esteemed webmaster and a rummage about in my photo draw I can confirm that it was in the year 2000 that Tim posted this:-
'This year’s race was won by Matt (by a whisker). Steve Mac, Nick (Matt's nephew) and Matt took part. Woolvie provided additional entertainment and Gnomic Steve rescued a lamb'.
I have photographic evidence of Nick being there and, fortunately from a distance but still unmistakably him, Woolvie about to take a dip in the tarn. I have no photos of the lamb-bothering but maybe Boots declined to print....
As to the date of the Pics Tim posted I susspect they may be a little more recent than '84.
Chris (trying to fit a luggage rack on the boot spoiler for next year!)
