SPANKY UPDATE from Today's surgery!!!!

by

His mama just sent this to our rescue group:

"I got a message from Dr. Moore that spanky's surgery went well, he is recovering and is on moraphine and resting. I missed his call cuz Im at work, I will call in the morning. He said he was tired I think the surgery was about 1.5 hours long. I hope to pick up spanky tomorrow. Since he said it went well, Im assuming both knees were done ( God I hope so)..

Will let you know more once I call tomorrow morning... "

Thank you so much for the prayers and good thoughts but please keep them up - he's got a long road ahead of him!

Dosage

by

For an adult bully I give one pill. I open the capsule and sprinkle it over the food. If the dog is ever having a specific issue you can give two pills a day. You can give it daily but I prefer to skip a couple of days or do 5 days on and 2 days off just so they don't build up an immunity to it. I think it's always a good idea to take a break when giving supplements but that's my personal preference.

Hello Everyone

by

Hello everyone, been reading the posts and viewing all the cool pics of everbody's bulldogs. Oscar here is my first. He is three and a half months now. Love him lots already, I have had Danes and wanted a Bulldog. We lost our last Dane Jackson earlier this year and decided it was time to bring home another pup, and look who came all the way from Arkansas! Very glad to have joined this board, lots of great info here for me.

What a cutey! My very first dog was named Oscar (not a bully, a fru-fru poodle!). I've learned more about bulldogs on BDW than I could ever read in a book. And everyone here is so nice! I've met so many great people here that I'm so glad to call my friends and I've been lucky enough to meet a couple of them in person and look forward to meeting more! Are you in Arkansas?

OK, I have a question...might be stupid, but it's bugging me.

by

When a vet spays a bulldog or other breed that has to whelp c-section.....When they do the FINAL spay surgery, why can't they make a small variation of the incision, or place a clip or a chip in the abdomen? Surgeons do that stuff all the time to mark a breast mass so it can be seen on x-ray. It floors me that they would have to explore a females abdomen to see if she was spayed. Maybe I'm just misinformed, but it seems like a smart thing to do.

I'm the Queen of stupid questions!

by

And that one isn't stupid. My little pound puppy, Jane, has a blue tattoo on her tummy, just above the incision. It tells the vet clinics and humane shelters that she's spayed. Odd, huh? I thought so, but for rescues, I think it makes perfect sense. Since I have tattoos, I think we're made for each other.

that would seem like the most logical thing to do

by

it would only take a second to inject a small amount of blue dye into the top or bottom portion of the incision. It just seems inhumane to me to "explore" the abdomen to make sure a pup is spayed.

Glad my response wasn't stupid :)

by

It's just a blue line, maybe an inch long, and visible. The local shelters all have this in place. We have a spay/neuter clinic that works with the local shelters that do this tattooing for them, but they will spay/neuter anyone's pet and place the tattoo. Maybe more vets will start doing this. Of course, for my girl, I would have liked for them to put some cool tattoo on her; maybe the sun.

Can an experienced vet tell by palpating her tummy?

I am not sure, but I thought they can tell by feeling.

I don't think so

by

I remembered reading about a vet who in fact did an exploration on a female and deemed her spayed....until she had puppies several months later. Apparently the uterus was so small and there was so much scar in there, he missed the uterus the first time. With all the females we get in rescue who are supposedly spayed....it makes we wonder, how can we really be sure if there is no outward indication?

Boo and Clovis said to tell you to . . .

by

get ONLY the mild fried chicken, not the spicy. At least not unless you want to feel fire coming out your butt later that night, along with other matter.

All I give them is a mild chicken breast and sometimes part of a biscuit, but be careful, those biscuits have an incredible number of calories. I like them but rarely eat them anymore becuz of that. The Cajun Rice is usually great, but not for a dog. Too spicy.

Have fun.

I feed Kofi

by

Wellness. She has been on whitefish and sweetpotato for about a year. She has done great on it. Her coat is thick and healthy, and no allergies or other problems.

I have just switched her to Wellness Core, Ocean, for no reason other than I wanted to try it.

She loves all flavors.

I feed my crew Wellness Core Low Fat....

by

it is grain free and I could not ask for a better food for my crew! Allergy issues (note: we had minor allergy issues) disappeared, gas is a think of the past, and they love it!

Zoey use to chew her paws and in between the pads was like a brick red color. That is gone and she no longer chews her paws. Friday's ears were inflammed so much they were shut and now they are openned. One more than the other but Malaseb pads are helping with the one that is not so much.

As for the gas, well, it was horrible. Now we have a gas free bulldog and Cocker Spaniels!!!

I am very very satisfied with this food.

note: A friend who owns a pet store sold us on this once she told me that her dog, a bulldog, who had severe skin allergies started on it and his allergies went away.
