Another question?

What does it mean if a puppy is bleeding out of its nose?
If it has a little cut on the inside of the nose, it shouldn't be a problem, but if the bleeding is coming from something else, and it doesn't go away right away, you should call a vet.
We got called a bit ago that my cousin took his life last night. He was 38 years old, we are not sure what went on. He was found in a hotel room. His parents are coming over from eastern washington.
He lived on his own, lost his job a little while ago. He was well vested, and we think it might have been due to the economy. We just had no idea he was hurting. No one in our family has ever delt with suicide in our family or friends.
I don't have any links for suicide survivors. My daughters fiance committed suicide 3.5 years ago, and left us all devastated. I know what this feels like Vicky. I am so very, very sorry that you are going to go through it, too.
One thing to remember...no matter how much you were or weren't close to this person, you had no affect on what he did. All the kindness and care in the world won't stop someone who wants to end their life. It isn't what could or could not have been seen in that man, or noticed the last time you saw him, or heard when you talked to him...it generally is a quick thought and action process that ends a life, not a long drawn out period of time thinking it and planning it. The last time you saw him, he could have been fine, and you would not have thought this would happen. I know....my husband spoke to Cody about a week before he killed himself, and Cody was fine. He didn't sound rash or suicidal in any way, shape or form. We would not have known then, that a week later he would be gone.
I will be praying for you, and if you need to, feel free to email me.
Re: OT, can somoene post or email me links on Suicide
by
Vicky, I'm so sorry for your loss. Suicide can bring so many conflicting emotions. I'll be praying for your cousin's entire family. Iris Bolton wrote a good book following the suicide of her son called "My Son...My Son..." It's a book about dealing with the aftermath of her loss and her journey into healing.
I've worked in social services a long time, including mental health, public assistance and child support. I've know too many who've committed suicide, including another one just last week. I knew he would do it eventually. He had a failed attempt at suicide-by-cop two years ago. This time he did it himself.
You can contact Adult Protection Services or Mental Health at your local social services office. They can direct your inquiries to the proper office.
I don't have a link, but a book that was recommended to me is Silent Grief: Living in the Wake of Suicide by Christopher Lukas and Henry M. Seiden
Kim (with Gretta Wilbur Jenna) posted this poem:
My Grief is Like a River
My grief is like a river--
I have to let it flow,
But I myself determine
Just where the banks will go.
Some days the current takes me
In waves of guilt and pain,
But there are always quiet pools
Where I can rest again.
I crash on rocks of anger--
My faith seems faint indeed,
But there are other swimmers
Who know that what I need
Are loving hands to hold me
When the waters are too swift,
And someone kind to listen
When I just seem to drift.
Grief's river is a process
Of relinquishing the past.
By swimming in Hope's channels
I'll reach the shore at last.
I highly recommend that when they are ready, the closest people to him consider the support groups listed in the links that Cathy provided. Find one nearby, they usually meet weekly or monthly. It is a unique grief, one that bears a lot of guilt for the survivors (for not knowing or not taking them seriously, etc). Fellowship with other survivors is important. I could not have made it without those people.
Vicky, you and your family will definitely be in my prayers. Know that there is nothing you could have done.
check the local newspaper for your area on the weekend most support groups are listed..
as well as the funeral homes having lists..
sorry for your familes loss.
Vicky I am so sorry, I have dealt with this as well
by
I had an uncle who had committed suicide.
And two years ago. the Oral Surgeon that I worked for attempted it 3 times and on his 4th attempt succeeded. It is a very sad thing to go through, I still miss my boss very much.
There should be some support groups in your area that will be able to help, you could check will your family doctor or local hospital or the yellow pages in your phone book.
I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this very difficult and sad time.
Just one week ago my kid's science teacher took his life. He had problems with depression, but he left behind a wife and three kids, and many MANY children that adored him and respected him as a teacher that made science fun. It never makes any sense to those that are left to wonder.
Praying for you and your family during this tough time.
how much does he weigh and is he gaining... it may be
by
that since he is bigger.... he is not nursing quite long enough... therefore he eats enough to satisfy but not really thrive... I had a singleton who did this also... she seemed satisfied and was gaining some but not pooing... as soon as I fed her more we had poo poo :O)
It could be that he is utilizing all the milk that he is getting at this time just
by Helen R. DeAmicis
wait a week and the poo will come LOL. You can also put Karo syrup on your finger and let him suck it off each time you feed him. Too much will cause diarhea so just a finger worth.
Hubby and I decide to take one of the bulldogs with us to an apple orchard. It's a beautiful day in Chicagoland and Eliza Dolittle is so in love with little kids (ours are grown) that we felt sure to see some. Boy did we ever. She did get her share of lovin, but for once I was glad she was deaf as kids say the darndest things. One little girl age about 4 said, Daddy, that dog looks like a pig!" Another kid said, "bye fat dog!" She only weighs 46 pounds. Another kid said, "Boy, does she have a big mouth!" My hubby and I laughed, but of course the mama in me was just a little miffed. I know kids are honest, but then again, she is my baby. She didn't care tho, she had a ball. So all in all it was a good day. Julie and the landsharks, Poppy and Liza
Oh my:-). Kids say the rottenest things sometimes!
by
I know they mean no harm, but the mommy in me would have raged within at those comments had they been directed to my sweet girls! My sister in law said, upon first sighting Sophie one time, "That has got to be the ugliest dog I've ever seen"! I was so mad at her for that! But she didn't mean it to harm me, so I let it roll off. Most people don't think Sophie is beautiful but I sure as heckfire do!
I would have laughed too. But it stings. I'll never forget taking Grover for a walk at a park and having a little girl come running up to us all excited to meet him, and when she got up close screaming "Eeeeeeewwwww!" and running back to her dad.
I understand being scared of his toofies, sure, but "Eeeew?" I would hardly say "eeeew" looking at this precious face. Hmpf.
Sounds like you had a good day. It's not been the kids but the "adults" who've said weird things about the girls.
Maizy always gets "He's a fat boy". One day, I let her wear her pink necklace with the big pink flower and the first person who came up to her said something about HIM being fat. Lol, can't girls be full figured too?
MiMi just isn't getting up today. She's acting as normal as she usually does all things considering.... happy to see us, VERY HAPPY to see her food bowl, drinking TONS of water (Dr says the pred will do this). She's just not getting up at all!
I took her outside this morning and set her on the pavment (I did this because she doesn't like it and will always get up). Usually when I do this she will at least move 8 feet or so into the grass and do her business.... this morning she moved maybe 3 feet and peed where she landed. After peeing she stayed in that spot until I moved her.
She also poo-ed in the house not 5 min after coming back inside (very odd- she's not an inside poo-er!). This afternoon she peed on herself in her bed. Again- this is not MiMi! While she has a hard time walking she is very good about barking to let you know its time to go out! She's on Pred though and drinking like its going out of style but again, this is very strange!
I did like I always do and walked away from her while she was out front, leaving the front door open (if she sees us she won't try to come in- she flops down expecting us to carry her. Ignore her and walk away and she will walk inside!). She seemed to have a harder time then normal keeping her front feet straight and staying up.
This afternoon I did the same- took her out, let her potty and then walked away.... she had a really hard time even walking 10 feet! I felt bad and carried her.
Her front two legs turning in again is worrying me. Each time she falls (which is to be expected) she rubs those front feet on the floor/ concrete/ etc.... she has a small sore on the left front leg now because of it!
So I have 2 questions-
1) Would it help her to keep those front legs stiff if I wrapped them in that ace bandage tape stuff??? I worry this may hurt her recovery but not making her support her own weight but her recovery IS hurting by them turning in! I'm thinking it would help keep them straight- this would help keep her standing (its the front that are really bad) and in turn would help build strength.
2) Do you think she's just sore?????
I know after a hard work out I'm usually sore the next day.... she's had one heck of a work out over the past few days! I just don't know if her muscles would suffer the same as ours would.
I would not wrap her legs because of the danger of cutting off the circulation in her legs. It would be very hard to get the bandages tight enough to stay up anyway and, she probably would not like it.
The prednisone makes them pee alot and they have a hard time controlling it. Morgan's on pred and she peed in the floor right in front of me this morning.
She has been standing to go potty (just not today)
She goes outside every 1-2 hrs needed or not and she's peeing very clear (barely even yellow). Stool is firm but not hard. Everything looks fine (no fever, appitate is more then ok, happy disposition, etc). She's peeing like a racehorse!!!!!!!! Masive amounts and when she barks you better RUN!!!!!!!!!!
Just no effort in walking.
I'm going to give her today off (I'll even carry her out the rest of the night). Tomorrow she's going to have to walk for me though
she is probably having an 'off' day...maybe too much the past few days. It is probably one of those things where there are a few steps forward and one back.
It is the same with people. My hubby got meningitis ~ 13 years ago and it damn near killed him, seriously! he lost 25 pounds in 2 weeks(was hospitalized for a month) and ended up on I.V. ACYCLOVIR for two weeks at home once he was discharged from the hospital.
I also survived meningitus! Your husband and MiMi are the only 2 I've ever known of who have survived! (course I didn't know dogs could get it until MiMi)
I contracted menigitus when my son was 7 months old (he's 9 now). Poor little guy had never seen a bottle before in his life when they quartined me in the hospital and hubby and the kids to the house. It also took me several weeks to recover (and I still suffer migranes).
Demoral kept me from worrying- hubby had the time of his life from what I understand Son was completely weaned by the time I was released.... it was kinda sad.
Warn him- I contracted mumps a couple years ago as well! Seems I can't catch a cold to save my life but if its life threatening and odd I'll catch it! (I've been double vaccinated from living over seas as well! Still caught the mumps!)
Hopefully he doesn't have the same problem but it wouldn't shock me if he did!
one of my dogs is on pr4ed. She is peeing alot too, she even peed herself while layng on my couch, she would NEVER do this bfore, it's just the pred. Maybe having to go sso often is making her more tired.
It sounds logicall that she is sore, having painfull muscle. But lying in her pee would really worry me (in fact that is one of the things that would make me consider if it isn't time to let my dog go).
On the other hand, all that she has gone through and the fact that she is eating nicely, speaks differently.
How about dressing her with a harnass and helping her to walk by keeping her weight more or less off her front legs? And placing her in a warm bath, so big that she is lifted by the water?
Just some ideas....
She's going to be fine. Its just going to take some extra work. She's simply to young to even consider.
She's in a raised Perla bed so I doubt she realized she had wet herself, she also came out of my room right after it happened so while she was wet she was not laying in it- maybe she felt it and came out to get away from it.... (it soaked through the bottom of the bed. No biggie- I'm having the carpets cleaned next week anyway).
I'm actually about to give her a warm bath though. I've been dreading it and hoping we could wait until she's a little more up on her feet but thats not gonna happen! She STINKS! I have a whirlpool tub so maybe that will help her feel better (I know I LOVE IT!)
they would frequently pee in the house which they would otherwise never do. It seems that they had no control. After the pred was over, they were both fine. Hope Mimi starts feeling better, she sounds like such a sweet girl.
Maybe don't let her walk where she will be scraping..juat grassy areas for a few days. Also, my old Mim (RIP dear one) would sometimes poop after seeming to be done emptying...again I think the body is tired/sore and it takes a few minutes for the message to leave the brain and get thru the bowels.
Having a physically disabled Bulldog here, she has to be carried most of the time, I can appreciate your efforts with MiMi. Makes me wish that my breed of choice was something like a Yorkie or Maltese.
A prayer request for Babydoll's new mom, Becky....
by
Originally Babydoll was to be in her new home a week ago, but her new mom's store burned down due to arson, which caused the adoption to wait understandably.
As you all know, Babydoll finally was able to go to her new home yesterday. Today I got a call from Becky saying her mother is in a sugar coma and they are at the hospital. She asked that I come get Babydoll for she doesn't trust anyone else to take care of her. This poor woman, she's been through so much in this past week. And when she saw Babydoll she was able to smile for the first time since her store burned down. And now this with her mother.
Please say a prayer for Becky's mom that she get well and back home so that she can finally meet her new granddog, Babydoll. Thank you all.

I'm so sorry this is all happening to Becky right now. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her mom at this time.
I know that you will take good care of Baby Doll for her.
After all that Dave does for us, now's the time to send thoughts, prayers and well wishes their way.
Jacinda has graciously offered her PayPal account for donations and will place the order. We will only accept PayPal, NO sending of personal checks, as time is limited.
Right now, we plan to collect through Tuesday and order on Wednesday for a Thurs delivery. I should know tonight what is going on and how long they plan to keep her but I would think she will be home by Thurs the latest.
We will order a cheery get well floral arrangement and some kind of food or fruit basket, sizes depending on how much is collected. It will be delivered to their house after Heidi is back home. Whoever donates will have their name added to the card that will be enclosed.
Jacinda's PayPal info is:

Thanks in advance for your support for webbie and Heidi.
What kind of symptoms did your bully have when they had pneumonia?
This is something I've been worried about with Tessie, because of the severity of it. She has been having this dry "huh" sound sometimes but it's mostly when she's playing and she stops for a minute. I haven't noticed any difference in breathing with her other than that, she likes to share my pillow at night so I'd hear it LOL.
Just wanted to know what signs to look for in the future.
Bubba also has a bit of sound like that after he over exerts himself like toward the end of our walk if he is breathing hard, kinda sounds like a slight cough....He had palett surgery 2 yrs ago and prior to that he sounded much worse. Hope this helps.
She was actually throwing up, foam and bile.
She was so listless, like just head down not wanting to do anything.
Her little belly with her respirations was strained and you could tell it was fast breaths.
She sounded not overly congested, but a little bit more so than usual. Even the vet was surprised, he didn't think she was presenting typical signs.
I am hoping it doesn't happen again though Good Luck
Please come vote for me in this contest! My mom is low on art supplies to keep painting those paintings for bulldog rescue, this would help her a lot..Plus I'm pretty cute!

Thank you!
I switched Bubba to Natural Balance fish and seet potatoe last week and I already noticed a difference in his stool being much firmer.....Is it normal to see results so quickly? I still mix in a little bit of Royal Canin Bulldog 24....The guy at the feed store told me that the stool should not be too firm as it is a sign of "filler and other junk" is this true also? Thanks
One of my girls always had a loose stool until we switched to grain free. Which is very good for her because she constantly needed her anal glands expressed when she had the loose stools.
taste of the wild pacific stream and both our guys have very firm stools. Chester always had soft serve until we got him on this food. Also, great coats, no tear stains or allergies.
Samson is such a sweet heart boy! He is just too cute sharing with little Oy! lol that first pic was hilarious! So nice to see them so happy together! I love to see those kinds of pictures, it made my day, thanks!

I love this time of year..So do the boys, they are so frisky now that the weather has changed.
Beautiful picture! thanks for sharing

i have used on deaf boxers the electronic training collar, YOU MUST use a very low frequency because all your trying to do is get the dogs attention, slight touch dogs looks gets a cookie, you do this till he looks every time he feels a buzz, then using hand signals you can go and teach your sits. Most deaf dogs are fear biters because they are startled by the hand touching them, or they cant feel the vibration on feet coming on the floor. this is not a large shock collar, their can be no pain associated with this, its a lit buzz quick treat, the dog is never scared or startled.
good luck in your training.
I have two deaf bullies that are trained to come when they see a laser light. Most lasers can even be seen during the day. I find deaf dogs are no harder to train than a hearing dog. Julie and the landsharks, Poppy and Liza

"Bulldogs World"........................(long)but not TOO long...
by
For everyone who visits here, long timers and newbies alike,Bulldogsworld has become a "haven" of sorts. We have made friends, gotten prayers when we needed them, and cyber-hugs when those were needed as well.We have found comfort, advice, support, and a kinship that goes far beyond just being owned by the same breed of dog.We have given and we have recieved love and kindness. At one time or another, alot of us have had a loss of a beloved pet or a loved one.We have been there for each other during those times as well.Alot of us know just how valuable coming to our friends here for courage meant the world to us.We have had the experience of seeing and hearing about those of you who unselfishly take dogs into your home that would by others be deemed "lost causes".Those of you who take on the tasks of having a spina bifida dog in your care.Running "rescue railroads" even when gas prices soared, just to see a dog get to a loving"safe house".You are truly THE most unselfish people I know.
I was pretty upset yesterday.I thank you all for getting me through that.I knew that this is where I would find what was needed.AND...Thanks to Bill for those silly, fun surveys that we look forward to each week. Those surveys give us laughter, and a little insight into our "unique" personalities...lol.
We are all lovers of bulldogs, but we are all good people too and proof everyday that there is good reason why God does not give up on the human race.
Thanks You Guys!
If you are what you eat,I must be delicious!

I agree completely with you Phyllis. I love this board because of the people on it, not just because they have bullies:-). So much help and comfort, every time it is needed. Such a strong group of folks, and a wonderful family to call my own:-)
I remember the first time on here..I was so taken back by the knowledge of bulldogs and the Feeling of everyone wanting to help...People I didnt know..I was in awwwww ...Gives you alot of HOPE being on here with you all..GOD BLESS...
I take my children on transports with me sometimes, and one time I was not part of a transport, but a big emergency email was sent out. One of the dogs that was being transported got loose when transfering to another car, the email was sent out to anyone in the Toronto area to see if we could go have a look for her, she was spotted in a backyard of a house. There was a huge ravine next to the house. So of course my husband and I went out to the area about 20 minutes away, it was 8:00 at night and pouring rain, we took our 12 year old daughter along to help. When we got there, there were 3 other car loads of searchers, there were 3 other cars there earlier. Long story short, my daughte was amazed at how many people showed up to search, we were there for 2 1/2 hours, my daughter said I love this community (meaning the dog community) she said they are so caring, and none of us know eachother or the dog, but so many people are here to help, she was very proud to be part of it. Lipton the dog was not found that night, but she was found safe 5 days later, very hungry but fine. I was so glad my daughter was proud of herself for helping. My 4 year ols son will be our future rescuer, he will take in any animal, and cries at the humane society comercials and asks if we can bring the animals here to liv, so they have a home. Sorry to write so much, I was just proud of my daughter for learning such a great lesson on her own.
Thank you Phyllis for posting that every word you wrote is so true. I know that is exactly how I feel Bulldogs World is place that you can always come to for reassurance, vent, cry, get or give advice and just really enjoy people that you really don't even know that are on the same page as you are.
Thanks again Bulldogs World it means alot to me..................
Mine has been packed away for over a yr now. I remember all those gifts Is the Boo stuffie still in one piece? If you remember, that was for you not the dog.
I did let Boo and Clovis briefly play with it, but not long enough to do any damage other than bulldog slobber. It's too cute to let them really go at it.
Toby had another head tremor this morning (oops, got a little long but I added a photo!)
by
I had a feeling that it was not going to be as simple as changing his food. But then again, he was on the Wellness Super5mix for a couple of months before he got a tremor, so maybe it will take more than 3 days of being off of it to make them go away?
Anyways, for a brief recap if you don't remember, Toby had head tremors for over an hour on Monday night. I could NOT get them to stop. I am not sure exactly how long they actually lasted. I did get them to stop once for about 10 minutes after he ate some ice cream and again for a short time after a ride in the car.
He experienced the tremors 4 times on Tuesday, which I was able to quickly stop each time by throwing food on the floor and he had to run around the room to find it all. Then he had one Wednesday morning that I stopped the same way. Then no more (that I have seen) until this morning. And this one I was also able to stop after throwing food all over the floor (my hubby thinks I am crazy for doing that, but it seems to work!).
I had switched his food to Wellness Super5mix, whitefish and sweet potato, a couple of months ago. He had been eating Canidae with absolutely no problems until they changed the formula. Then he started having ear problems and was chewing his feet. A dermatologist at the A&M vet school recommended Purina H/A, which gave Toby terrible wrinkle stains all over his face.
Someone suggested Wellness, so I bought what was available at Petco. He had not been having any skin or ear problems on that, and seemed fine until the head tremors started this week. In my internet searches for information on head tremors, I saw that quite a few dogs seemed to develop tremors after starting on WellnessSuper5mix food.
So as of Wednesday morning, Toby has not been eating that anymore. I would like to see how he does on Taste of the Wild, but no one carries that locally, so I ordered it on the internet and it is on the way. I still had some of the Purina H/A left, so he is eating that until the TOTW comes and I can get him on that.
I am not sure that this is food related, but I just cannot in good conscience keep feeding him the Wellness. I guess it is a wait and see thing for now. I was starting to feel a lot better when we went 3 days without a tremor, but now I am back to feeling like I am on pins and needles, waiting for them to start again.
Oh, I did take him to my vet on Thursday night. She did a blood work up and everything was normal. She said she has had other dogs in her practice with head tremors, and she did nothing to treat them as they do not hurt the dog. And everything I have read online also suggests that the head tremors don't harm the dog. And my new friend Cathy who is so awesome and talked with me at length on the phone, reassured me and said Zimmer has had these tremors for years and is still a healthy and happy bulldog.
And here is a picture I took of my sweet man yesterday. It is finally getting a little cooler here (I think yesterday the high was 'only' 86, brrr, lol) so Toby searches out sun in the house to warm his little self. Here he is, sunning his tongue.
He is just the sweetest little guy.
My first bulldog had had tremors for most of her life
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
they were more frequent in her first two years and then much less frequent afterwards. They never seemed to bother her that much so I sort of got used to them.
Boo has only had one head tremor in her life, this past summer. I switched her food to a non-grain brand, Innova Evo, and the next morning she had the tremor. I immediately put her back on Purina One and she hasn't had one since. Maybe just a coincidence, but who knows.
I would give her a Pupperoni and the tremor would stop right away
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
in hindsight, tho, that may not not have been a good move. It was unlikely she would choke on it, but there was a possibility.
For a while, I put her on phenobarbitol, which seemed to help but I stopped it because of the possible side effects, not that she ever had any. After she was about 2 or 3, the tremors came much less frequently. By then, I would just ignore them or say "let's go out!" That would usually stop them.
Good luck. It's pretty scary the first few times you see them, but after a while they didn't bother me much and they never seemed to bother my bulldog much either.
from Petedge or JBpets...keep in with you at all times, one in the car and soem at home...works wonders in headtremors in my experience. I have used it on bitches who have just had pups, we often see head tremors in them.
I hope the answer is that it does take a few days to get rid of the tremors, however, I doubt it is as simple as food. Maybe....maybe not. Who knows. But, I have heard they are not life threatening.
Smooch that Toby for me....he looks so cute in that pic!
I made two critical errors last night.................
by
concerning the survey! One, I misspelled the word "best" as "bast" on the field trip question. And I tried to proofread it too. Oh, but thank you, BDW, for pointing that out to me, over and over and over, ad infinitum. How embarrassing! And, Two, I forgot to mention "Where's my rum?", which I'll make up for today because I'm off for two days. Now..................Where's my rum???
I dont drink often only because when i do i really only like the hard stuff and well ya know..soemtimes ya get a ltitle too wild! LOL!
That pic was from Jenns White trash rehitching and well it was an event to celebrate. Had my rum and some crapppy ass cola, was good to go! Glad the other half was drivin!
Oh if your ever in the area...i make the best damn camp coffee! I cant share the whole thing but will say it has a little JD in it!
I thought I was in an alternate universe and was getting (more) confused! LOL
Obviously, you've been working too hard, Bill. I'll hold Rhiann down, you grab the bottle!

all those northern bulldog chicks are gonna get so excited over Bodie's sexy bark accent that they will be calling up at all hours of the night and throwing themselves at poor innocent Bodie like they are bulldog chicks on a hot tin roof greased with Jif and Popeye's fried chicken. Cody may never get another good night's sleep, or get that smile off Bodie's face.
I dont care how many bully puppies you have you just never can have enough... Man... Pearlie is still a baby but lookin at those precious babes I could do it again...they are gorgeous..
I just posted an update above. Toby had another tremor this morning. It was his first one in 3 days.
But other than that he seems completely fine. It is getting cooler here so he has been spending more time outside and he loves that. He seems to want to play more than usual, which is probably due to the cooler weather.
I have an old rug in the attic hubby has PROMISED me he will bring down so we can use it in the front entry!
She did very well navigating over the thresh this morning though.... sadly she was not really interested in moving at all though.
She seems fine, happy and as always hungry- she just doesn't want to get up today. I wonder if her muscles are sore from recent activity? After not moving at all for a month and now moving I can only assume her muscles would be screaming right now! (I was in pain for almost 2 weeks after getting back into my excercise routine!)
Its football day though so she's in the right house to lay around and cheer on Ole Miss!!!!!!!!!!
so when they brought out the cake they dropped it, thinking not many would notice or were too drunk to notice. Well Mark and i sat off to the side watching all these people go u0p and get these cupcakes, twinkies ect and then they would take a bite and start spitting something out or try and figure what was also in thier mouth,-spit out a rock and keep on chewing! LMAO! Well here is a pic of the zingers with rocks, and yes someone ate them!
She is just so absolutely adorable precious. Thank you for taking her and doing what you can to improve her quality of life. She looks so happy and content and loved. I think she has brought joy to your life too. I hope her condition will be manageable.
My Belle is urine continent, but she poops when she has to go and doesn't always make it outside. I try to keep her on a poop schedule and feed her a food that keeps her firm. We laugh about having to sometimes "gather Belle's little eggs." It's just not a big deal as long as she's firm and we find them before we step on them. I've learned from experience that I need to stimulate her to go BEFORE any long trips in the car.
She is a sweet little girl who loves hugs and cuddles more than anything. I am having a difficult time getting her stool to be firm, so I keep the diaper on her at all times. She will dribble urine at will, she has no control over either function. I would love to have some solid egg poops!!! Imagine that! Otherwise she is doing very well. She got wormed at her vet appointment early last week, then got shots and wormed again yesterday. She was full of round worms the first time around, so my vet chose to do it again this week to get whatever was left.
I will manage her SB to the best of my ability. So far so good, she is really learning quickly and actually comes to her momma for a diaper change when it is full:-) No matter what time of day or night it is:-)
She is such a cutie (Isabella - not you...)!
Hugs to that sweet Sophie girl!
Afraid of spiders, huh?? <cackling evilly> Although I must say, I would have been a tad freaked if they were dropping on me in the dark, too! I have issues with spiders with hairy legs. I think the daddy long leggers must shave? Hee hee!
amy...they are too beautiful! thank you again for loving Isabella for who she is! Santino's feet are that way too, and when he stands it's like he's standing on his ankles/knees, know what i mean? hard for me to explain. BUT none of that stops him in anyway....he's a beast! you can email me anytime if you'd like? kiss your beauties for me........
Hey you, how was that wild trip of yours? You girls still "out" there or are you home and behaving now? I hope you had a great time, and hugs to you and T-Mae Mack...
is over. we stuck around here for the most part. tillie still gets over agitated. maybe in the spring we will do our annual sarahsmiles visit. tx judy is home, back to work for me sunday night. ICK! but, gotta pay the bills. it's nice to have such a good friend to hang with.....
but she does get tired and sits down a lot. I take her diaper off to let her play outdoors, and she really can motivate when she has her legs freed up! She bunny hops when she runs, so I try to make her slow down to a walk and hopefully it will strengthen that hind end some.
Do you like it? Do your pups like it? I live in MD (DC Greater), and not the biggest fan. I have lived all over the place so I'm not attached to staying close.
We love it here, big and lots of room to run all day. Nice quiet neighborhood, neighbors are nice too, we have the beach nearby very nice and a huge dog park within a half hour drive to also play at, glad I moved here.
I love where I am right now, but would love to move to west Texas on a huge horse ranch and wile away my days riding and giving lessons, boarding horses. Taking out groups for trail rides and hay rides. Loving my life and all that are in it. Oh wait, I do that last part right now!!
OH! And Rottie Girl is coming to live on my ranch, too. That should be interesting. She will be evicted if she starts throwing spiders at me though:-)
nope don't like it, the armpit of America. I hope to live in 70 gegree weather year round, with no humidity and lots of water. lol!!! that would probably be heaven and it will wait. I guess I'll keep the job and wait for retirement. Dang!!!
Destin is a GREAT place to live, beaches, small town with a cosmopolitan feel to it. Real estate is very high, but it's safe, great places to eat, go dancing, enjoy nature and the most beautiful beaches ever! And plenty of parks for Bullies!
I'm not crazy about L.A., but you really can't beat the weather. I'm so spoiled, it would be hard to adjust to a colder climate. I'm from Chicago and just the thought of living there makes me cold.
We live in the country and the pups love it...we used to live in the city (pre-bulldogs) and we hated it....its quiet and peaceful out here and we have no nosey neighbors in our business.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” - Anatole France
I have been back and forth through there many times. We have family in central Ill, and I also used to travel from NY to AZ by car a lot, drove through that area often! St. Louis was always my favorite land mark, it has the closest to NY "Jack in the Box" fast food restaurant...my favorite fast food!
located at the most norther point of Oregon. The mild climate is perfect for bulldogs ya gotta like the rain or at least not mind it as we did have 4.56 inches of rain in Aug this year!!! Lawns are pretty much green year-round here and the scenery is outstanding! Also a tourist destination, so heavy traffic in the summer months, but nothing like living in the BIG city.
I loved visiting there, and would love a house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. So would everyone else though! I bet those are few and far between there!!
Jumbalia(sp) and would LOVE a recipe for a not to cajun spicey one that contains only the sausage as the meat! We have been to LA a few times and hubby and I both agree that they have the absolute NICEST people in the world:)
Thank you, and I'd give you a recipe for Jambalaya but I can't cook
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
however, if you Google "Chef Paul recipe for jambalaya," you will probably get a pretty good one. Emeril is a great cook too, but he's from New York, <g>.
Gold was discovered near here. Four seasons, each one 3 months long. Above the fog of the Sacramento Valley, below the snow of the Sierras. Born here. Love it. I now live on my Grandpa's farm that I grew up on since I was 10 years old. Perfect for bullies, and all animals!!
Just about 7 minutes outside of Grand Rapids. Do I LOVE it? No!! I would much prefer to be on a beach on an island somewhere but I just can't afford that luxury yet:) Roxy really isn't to keen on the blowing snow part of living here either. However, the beautiful changing seasons is the only wonderful thing of living here along with being so close to Lake Michigan!
It gets really hot here, so Toby can't hang out outside that much. And he loooooooooooves to be outside. It is getting cooler so he has been able to stay outside more and go for some walks, which he just loves.
So I am sure Toby would love to live somewhere where he could be outside more. And I would like to live somewhere cooler, too. I have lived here over 9 years and will never ever get used to the heat.
not the best place to live in Ca, its HOT here in the valley in summers (high 100's) cold witners with alot of fog that kills hundreds of people every winter due to pileups on the 99 or 198 highways, when it freezes all the crops ruin...
my crew hates it...but they love fall and spring here!
Raising Canes is the ONLY place I'll eat chicken! (I'm not really a chicken fan anyway). I have no clue what they make that sauce out of but I get extra everytime I'm there for other food!
Too crowded. On vacation at the moment in Santa Fe NM...there's fewer folk in this entire STATE than in greater San Diego!! No wonder its so quiet here. LOL
Love it-we live in the country about 60 miles from Chattanooga and about 50 from Atlanta. My dogs seem happy here, I'm sure during the summer they wish it was cooler so they'd have more play time outside.....
L
ANY high fat food (bacon is one our vet mentioned, cold cuts too) can cause pancreatitis...particularly since T-Giving is coming up, be aware that turkey skin can cause it.
Hope your feeling better today. Did you get your right hand done first? You'll get good with the left preety quick. I had an injury to my right many years ago that I couldn't use it for 3-4 months and it got pretty easy to do things with the left. Playing catch wasn't one of the things. lol!! hugs my friend.
Glad the operation went well. Hopefully Pam and your parents and the bullies are giving you some TLC. Take advantage of it. You probably never get a chance to put up your feet and relax much.
Funny thing...I'm the only one up. LOL They were worn out from drive, sitting in waiting room, etc... But when they are up, they take great care of me. I am lucky and blessed.
I forgot about that part. I actually hung a hook from the ceiling to hang it while I slept. lol!! I'm glad your doing well. many hugs, your in my thoughts and prayers.
how about a quick survey? What do you drive and what gas mileage do you get??
by
I'm seriously thinking of trading off the FJ cruiser, it gets 20 mpg, nice vehicle but the miles I have to commute is not so good. I need to get soemthing that will fit a crate in it. And I need to get it in my name only. a very good thing.
Sorry, can't help you on this one! I drive a gas hog truck!
by
And I was driving about 100 miles round trip a day, using a tank of gas in three and a half days. I had to fill up Thursday on my way home from work every week:-) Now that I am "retired" temporarily, I use about a tank of gas a week The bomb gets about 15 miles to the gallon, maybe a little more?
now dang it!!! lol!!! looking for beter mileage :)
by
guess I'll hit the car lots. I had a 3/4 ton at one time that with the camper on it got 4 mpg, but gas was 50 cents a gallon. , it still hurt then too.
I rarely get less than 47 mpg, city or highway driving. And it is the perfect car for dogs. The rear seats fold down completely flat and the car sits low enough to the ground that it is easy even for bulldogs to get in and out of the car on their own.
It gets anywhere from 35 to 42 mpg depending on my driving conditions. Unfortunately, I don't think a crate will fit in it. But the back seat is just custom made for 3 bully butts.
My son-in-law has a Mini Cooper. I needed to transport Spotty to the ER recently in a crate, and I called him to help.
Spotty's larger crate (24x36, and 27 inches high) did not fit in, but we got the smaller one (23x36, 25 inches high) in, with not a centimeter to spare.
Width was not an issue, but height was. Spotty is fine, by the way--a cast on his leg had slipped off. He was rebandaged and on his way in 20 minutes.
'63 ragtop VW Bug named Hugo, my 1st car 30 years ago.
by
I have a '92 Dodge truck, was my daily driver until Hugo came back into work because of the diesel prices. Girl needs a truck with horses and animals. So, it just hauls the horse trailer, etc, now and the bug is my daily driver. 36mpg and a classic now!
LOVE it LOVE it LOVE it.....except for the gas milage!!! I get about 22 MPG. But it is a great ride and I adore the heated seats in the front and middle rows. The middle ro is 2 captain chairs with a fold down 3rd bench seat. Roxy loves to ride shot gun as she gets quite a view from up so high. Other car is a 2000 Checy Corvetee convertable. It actually gets better MPG than my Tahoe, but Roxy hates to ride in it when I take the top off. All that wind just freaks her out:)
My next vehicle will be one, but not if I have to haul horses!! It will be my "town car" that I can go grocery shopping and stuff in!! I love those Tahoes!!
I hope you all have a great weekend. Prayers and good thoughts for all those who need them.
The Covered Bridge Festival is here for the next week and half. It brings millions into the area for the fleamarkets at all the little towns and the beautiful covered bridges. But it sure clogs up traffis for miles and miles. I'm debating going out to wash the car and do my shopping. hmmm I may just stay in and clean house. lol
Have a great one!!
how was your trip?? I love that you found a lil ol' moose!!! lol!!
the doc trip was ok. They have scheduled and confirmed the surgery. I hope to get instant relief.lol Maybe to much to ask, but I do hope it will give relif eventually. I go on the 22nd of this month. Thanks for asking. Hugs to the babies and you. have a great weekend. I'll send the pic later today, its on the other puter, I don't get in there often. this is more comfy.
I know what you mean - we're being inundated with the leaf peepers, now (peak foliage season) and it's a holiday weekend. Batten down the hatches - time for the locals to hole up! LOL
Oh, and - Good Morning, Pam!
I was thinking it would be a good time to clean the car and go trade it for something that gets 90 mpg. lol but I'm not a crowd person and its a serious challenge going any where. lol!! The leaves are just starting to change here. I kind of hate to see that happen. But its part of it, I guess. hugs the kids, and have a great day
the getting there is awful. It took me 30 minutes extra to get home from wor yesterday. No kiddin there was at least a mile of cars just stopped. It would be ok if it were just in one town but these bridges are everywhere. And all the locals try to capitalize on it. There are so many parking fields that do nothing all year and suddenly full of cars at $3 a car. I should buy one of those fields. lol!! No crowds for me.
I'd love to come help ya. lol!! I think the babies are in the path as well. so they may just get their baths as well. have a great day Deb. hug the gang for me.
she will be unexpectingly going to the operating room sometime in teh next 12 hours due to an emergency for abdominal pains, that is the brief version. explore around teh liver, plus take the gall bladder out while there.
We're hoping all goes well for whatever she needs during her hospitalization!! Please keep us posted and you'll both be in the forefront of our minds!!
We went to Petsmart today and got the puppies some new toys and treats. I finally found a treat ball like I wanted. This is Tessie playing with it. She loves it It keeps her busy and I'm so excited about that! lol It talks to her, when you hear that sound it is a quick one I recorded to see how it works HAHA
Although she was naughty today, she decided she didn't want mom to go back to work, I took a hiatus since May . I left a pair of my shoes (couldn't decide which ones to wear) on the stool for our kitchen island and when Josh went to take a shower, she climbed up and got them and chewed my leather sandals!!!
Here's the video.. she looks sweet and innocent HAHA
The daddy long legs venom is VERY toxic, and is said to be poisonous to humans and pets of all sizes. However the fangs on them are so small they cannot open them wide enough to bite anything bigger that a very small insect. I believe the information I researched was correct, but I still smash 'em without a second thought. Many of the smaller spiders that live in my garage feed off mosquitoes and flies, two things on this earth that I really think God should not have created. So the spiders in the garage get to live there, far back under the workbench, and on the inside corners of the doors, catching and eating these &%#@! Me as a live human, and three dogs means there's always a supply of fresh blood, and land mines available.
To all of you out there that are fearful of their dogs/people getting bitten by a spider, or a bee, or a wasp, or anything else, good hunting, and be careful. Don't want to see you at the doc's office.
The red ones? That was what I was always told (never stopped me from picking them up and throwing them at girls I didn't like at camp! lol). I was an evil child... :P
I knew that about you:-). Somehow I just knew that:-)
by
I am terribly afraid of spiders, DLL in particular. When I was little my family went on a camping trip in the mountains in Arizona. We stayed in cabins with no screens in teh windows, and probably no shingles on teh roof! I was asleep in the night, and kept feeling drops hit my head and face. I thought it was raining. I got up and stumbled to the bathroom, flipped on the light, and there were literally millions of DDLs all over the place. On teh ceiling, the walls, the floors. And in my waist length thick hair and on my face. I was terrified, adn have been horrified of spiders ever since. I can't walk under them, and I hate walking into those thin little webs that adorn every square inch of the woods. Yucko!!
Oh, and Chuck is right. They are very venomous. But they can't bite because their mandibles are too tiny.
So you big meanie, throw a spider at me and see what happens:-)
Should of known..... just kidding-I only went to girl scout camp so if you were throwing spiders they probably didn't let mean little girls like you go there )))

I have been trying to figure out what caused Scout, my Lhasa who died in August, to die from pancreatitis, and caused Clovis to nearly die this past weekend of pancreatitis. This past summer, I started giving Kraft's Cheese Cubes to my dogs because they would sometimes pant heavily when they came back inside after a walk. I figured the cheese might help cool their tracheas. All three of my dogs love the cheese cubes.
After researching pancreatitis, I found out that food that is high in fat content is one of the main causes, and that cheese is very high in fat. If anyone gives their dog cheese, you may want to read this article, which says cheese is very bad for dogs:
Giving Scout & Clovis cheese is the ONLY diet change in the past year
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
the Kraft's Cheese Cubes I started giving them for the first time ever this past summer is the only diet change they have had for at least a year. And all of my girls love the cubes. But the cheese is not high on my list of suspects for causing the pancreatitis since Scout and Clovis are two different breeds but both got soooo sick from the same condition within a 2 month period.
we don't typically give large amounts of cheese to the dogs but sometimes a slice of american cheese as a treat... we will not do that any longer...
hope Clovis begins to feel more like herself and gets better quickly. we'vew been thinking about her..
Mine get a daily scoop of yogurt on their food, it's a dairy product. I had no idea about the cheese! When they are on medication we normally wrap their pill in a small piece of cheese. Guess we won't be doing that anymore. Thanks for the info!
Darcy, Sherman and Camy
I wouldn't have known that Gary. I don't feed much people food....
by
but I do feed kraft cheese slices every once in a while. I tear one piece into 5 parts and each dog gets a little smidge. I will stop doing that and find healthier snacks. I'm so sorry about your beautiful little white Scout. She was precious:-)
wow-now have to find another alternative. I have used NB Duck & Potato canned food so I guess we'll be using that from now on.....the potato skins would contribute towards calcium oxalate stones-as would the cheese.....very interesting information. Thanks Gary!!
L
well thank you for that information gary, and please try not to feel guilty about what happened to Scout. these things just happen, and look at what's come of it? you found some important information in your search for answers which in turn may be saving the lives of many dogs out there!
i always use the kraft cheese cubes to hide pills in. better not do that anymore.
Oh, Gary, I'm sorry, I wish I knew! I would have told you
by Michele
about the cheese. I've become the food police since losing Winnie. When I hear the things some dogs get fed it's scary, but they mean well...I heard of someone the other day giving their dog sausage and peppers! I didn't know until Winnie got pancreatitis how bad bacon was, for instance. We don't know what caused Winnie's as she hadn't recently eaten any people food except a tiny bit of pasta. I honestly think it was related to the UTI she had for many weeks and her body just giving out.
THank you so much for telling everyone here about the dangers and I'm so glad Clovis is ok.
Thank goodness I don't eat pork, or I would have been giving them bacon, ham, etc.
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
as treats or as an add-on to dry food. But I stopped eating pork after reading that pigs are as intelligent, if not more intelligent, than dogs. Well, I sometimes crater and eat pepperoni on a pizza, but I never eat ham, pork chops, or bacon anymore.
Many use it as bait in the show ring as another option to entice the dog to freestack. I use chicken but in a pinch I use the cheese. I've never had a problem with any of my dogs and I've had dogs for years. I've had dogs that died but they died either because of cancer or a birth defect that their breeder never knew they had, but none die from eating cheese. I'll have to watch how much they get from now on.
We had a cocker once that had pancreatitis and vet thought the same, didn't mention cheese just that hubby had been giving her some of his hot dogs at lunch.
Was that what was arong with Clovis? DId she have pancreantitus? Gosh that is scarry, I sprinkle grated cheese on Bubba's food alot, he loves it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us...Hope all is well.
Yep, Clovis had pancreatitis, so did Scout, who died from it in August
by Clovis & Boo & Gary
Scout was also diabetic. Clovis thankfully had a good blood sugar level when I had to take her to the ER.
Clovis seems to be doing much better. The last time she threw up bad was Wednesday morning. She's been smiling and playing since then, but I'm still being careful and only feeding her baked chicken & rice or Science Diet I/D, which is a food for dogs recovering from pancreatitis and G.I. conditions.
IMO, cheese is okay if given in moderation. I honestly don't know a dog that doesn't get a cheese cube as a treat, or maybe get their pills wrapped in a piece of Velveeta slice or even have a taste of pizza. I know dogs sometimes don't do well with dairy but again, the key is moderation.
And garlic - it is listed on every homeopathy site as a flea/mosquito repellent. Grover gets a minced fresh clove once a day and has for yrs now. Sumo got some every day too but not fresh, just minced from a huge jar. And Bear has been getting it also but soon the skeeters will die and he won't need it.
Gary, could it be the Popeyes that caused it? I know you never give them the skin but it is fried and even the mild can still make the actual chicken a tad spicy.
a local Winn Dixie bakes chicken breasts that don't have any seasoning or spice added, so I buy that and rice from there and give it to Clovis, and now to Boo and little Scout also. And no skin from it either.
I just don't trust anyone making chicken and I don't buy commercial brands like Golden Plump either.
There's so much salt and also use of antibiotics in commercial poultry.
I buy organic, local farm raised you can even taste the difference... I would always get so thirsty after eating commercial brands.
I know it's more expensive but so worth it!!
I've gone through this with Frankie, in a milder form. She's still on I/D and I don't give her ANY more table food as she has gotten sick from it.
At 8 years old and a risky digestive system it's just not worth it!
I'm glad Clovis is recovering well Gary, and I'm still so saddened by Scout's passing...
by Julia & Grover
But I hate articles like that.
And I hate to see people panic.
Grover's been getting fresh garlic for 6 years now. And occasional cheese (we're talking one teeny piece a couple times a week) is unlikely to cause harm.
And of course, Grover eats bones. LOL! So I'm that author's worst nightmare. There is plenty of research to rebut so many of those points, so I'm confident in the diet I've been feeding Grover for years. (Which includes no human food, with the exception of the small bits of cheese and garlic, if that's considered a "human food.")
Again, you know I adore you and I'm SO glad Clovis is doing better. And I hate to think that the cheese you were giving them was the culprit, but I don't want people all freaking out that CHEESE will lead to pancreatitis.
I was giving them at least 5 cheese cubes a day. I agree that a small amount once or twice a week is unlikely to do any harm. And many dogs probably handle cheese better than others.
Sorry to hear this...I've been giving cheese for 20+ yrs
by
and I've never had a dog sick with pancreatitis. I give pills twice daily with lo-fat cream cheese and I give my bullies cheddar cheese often...maybe no problem because mine are accustomed to it?? or because I feed a lower-protein kibble?? Interesting!
$2.59 ..I know hard to believe..It has dropped all week ...
by
It is all over town $2.59 I was coming back from Dinner and I just couldn't believe my eyes..I filled up... But all week it has dropped from $2.99
amazing how that changes HUH?
We're in the south where the hurricanes jacked up the prices. Just 3 weeks ago, I was paying over $4 a gallon. Right now, we are at $3.09-$3.29 for regular. Of course, my stupid car has to have premium.
Sandra, Cooper, Hollywood AJ, Jane, Jenny, & Birdie!
but I have noticed over the last week here that gas is dropping on average of 10 cents a gallon a day.....I don't look for it to go much lower than $3 here. GA instead of being called The Peach State should be called the price gauging state.....Last I heard 130 gas stations in the state were under investigation for price gouging. 10 of those are probably in the town I live in....
