The Saints won their first game of the year in a convincing fashion beating the Milton Mavericks 17-8 at the John Tonelli arena in beautiful downtown Milton. Leading the way was Dayne Boatswain with 5 goals and 5 helpers. Harry Cassady notched the trick and other goal scorers included Andrew Chapman,Derek Hopcroft and more--not sure as i got there late. There were a few fights and threatened to get a bit out of control--though a timely decision to call to run the clock with 29 seconds left prevented more fistacuffs--wise move by the refs that was brought on by the fans to get the game over.
Next game is season opener Saturday at the Pikering Rec Centre( Ice Just out of Centennial Arena)

sorry i tried out this new feature about changing what other people write.....i did not mean to but I heard their was a new feature that other people can change what you write so i tried it out.....that is not cool i think glenn should get rid of that option...ok peaceout
I think the edit tool is good in cases where the article defames/slanders/libels people--not to simply delete a writers article--i would think you think Bow dropper before you decide to do anything like edit other peoples posts
Being able to edit another person's post is insane. When the Rev is kind enough to write a game report I'm sure he wants us to read his thoughts, not thoughts someone else has added(or deleted) after the fact. I don't even think Glen Dundas should have this right. By all means, as webmaster, he has the obligation to remove inappropriate postings, however to edit and alter the comments of another is totally unacceptable.
How can anyone ever expect an accurate account of a game or event when the posting has had five or six other people's deletions or additions? If anyone wants to add something, write another post. If they want to delete something, too bad, leave it up to the host to determine what is deemed inappropriate and go from there. Pessimistically, I could foresee someone using the capability of editing another's post to intentionally alter what people are trying to say and create conflicts (of which there are already plenty without this added aspect).
i was at the gloucester Nepean game friday night and i would just like to point out some interesting things...
First of all, i just want to point out that is was an extremely exciting game with nepean beating gloucester 10-8 despite being outplayed the entire game by gloucester.
Whether in Nepean or GLoucester we only have 3 referees.... Cameron Watson and Francis (from Akwesasne).....now lets see its either Cameron and Watson, Cameron and Francis or Watson and Francis.....not that they are bad referees (one in particular is the best though)....but when the same reffs see you all season there is (in my opinion) a disadvantage to Gloucester and Nepean....and it showed last night for both teams.....certain players who have a reputatio got penalties for just looking the wrong way at people. Last year the only Griffins home game with Toronto reffs was the May long weeknd....and we had the same guys for 2 games.
The reffing was also quite inconsistant, but yet they did make bad calls both ways. Many people dont want to believe it but reffing DOES have a major effect on the outcome of a game.....if the reffs calla great game it still has an effect on the game--just a positive one--.....yet tonight it was powerplay after powerplay...3 on 3...4 on 3....4 on 4.....for things that wouldnt be called in a peewee game.
Also, facemasking, is it a penalty or not? Seems to not be one anymore (i do know its in the rulebook)....tonight with a couple of seconds left a skirmish breaks out and while the nepean player is on top of the gloucester player the nepean player has a hold on another gloucester players facemask and is pulling him down too.....now lets see facemasking ....i thought it was easy to define a facemask....grab it and pull = penalty......but i guess you grab on and reef on his helmet all you like because its not going to be called. (it wasnt just this game as well).
well i hope you stayed awake while reading this....kinda long i know....just a couple weeks worth of stuff ive been meaning to say.
A departure from my normal type of post but for some reason feel inclined to wade into these waters.
The neck area is a vulnerable area and damage done in your teens and twenty's easily leads to some nasty stuff in your 40's such as herniated disks, calcified vertabra, and compressed spinal cords. You'd be surprised how common these complaints are.
Point being, I crinch a bit whenever I see cross-checks made to the neck area or players put some torque on anothers mask. Players need to play tough and hard but with some respect for your opponents long-term well-being and refs need to exercise their power to protect these athletes.
Remember both those teams wear field helmets. The biggest problem I see with the face masking comes from the use of field helmets in box lacrosse. They will not come off & guys keep playing like big man on campus knowing they are not going to fight fairly. There was at least 8 instances this weekend in our games up their that guys were playing tough guy & had the advantage of knowing they will be protected, but would not take it off but had no problem ripping ours off. I know they are safe, I know they protect but they get grabbed & twisted thus you get neck injuries. You have to have some way to protect yourself, & your inability to defend yourself properly causes the extra bit of grabbing. I think for the betterment of the game field helmets are for field & that is it. Field is a different game not so closely contested, so they serve their purpose outdoors but indoors they are dangerously close to being a safety issue. I played in the 60's & 70's so I have seen it all, & these helmets are not the answer in box. I normally try not to spout off like this, I like just giving game reports about our games. So, I wish not to offend but maybe enlighten.
well it sucks that you only have 3 refs but as a ref if you do not call the little stuff tho out the game then it always starts to get a crazy at the end and that is when the big fights start. if your team is always nice and respectful to the refs for the whole year then it will come back to help you at the end of the year. it is just a game and everyone does mess up.
You do have a valid point, but it will never change.Teams will not spend the extra money to bring in other ref,s once in awhile.Same reason Ottawa ref's are never brought down to Toronto area,it's all about keeping costs down.I understand players don't like seeing the same guys all the time, but it works both ways, ref's don't like seeing the same teams all the time either.
The problem is that eventually their is going to be a conflict between the team and ref's.Well that will keep festering because you know you will see each other within a week.Everything that happens will always be fresh in everyone's minds. But because we are isolated up here, that will always be the case.
I was at the Nepean game you are referring to.If a facemask was given out,the gloucester player would have to have got a third man in(nepean player tangled with one guy---and this guy trying to jump in).It is only my opinion, but they probably let both go so no one would get suspended.
just wondering but why would he have gotten 3rd man in?....it was not a fight.....i thought there can only be a 3rd man in call whenever a player interferes with 2 players that are fighting (and receive fighting majors).....anways in my opinion gloucester guy should have got 2 for roughing, nepean guy 2 for roughing plus 5 for facemask +GM and other gloucester guy 2 for roughing or unsporstmanlike (he wasnt really trying to get in....the nepean player had a good grip on his mask and was pulling him around)......regardless is over now and not much can be done about it
You are right that there has to be a fight to have a third man in.Fighting majors were assessed to the 2 original players. They were given 5 for fighting and 10 misconduct because it happened in last 5 minutes.Like i said,im not sure, but they may have called it that way to avoid any suspensions because nothing really became of it.
WOW.....what a brudle game.....i do not know where to start, the refing was horrible, the mountys were brudle and the gaels were brudle.....the mountys were down by a few after the first but in the second picked up their game and faught back to get close to the gaels, as mimico started to fight back and make a game out of this tilt, one ref decided to took over and start to call the game in favour of the Green team, with the score tied at 10's with about 3 minutes left in the game, the ref decided to call some "great" calls (i am being sarcastic) and send two mimico players to the box for "outstanding calls"(another chance for me to be sarcastic), on this particular two man advantage the gaels got two goals to take the lead 12-10......Normally I would not care if a team took an honest lead with 3 minutes left because i know we will tie it up but when one of the ref (who made these two calls) was a past GM or owner of the Oshawa Green Gaels (i dont care if i spelled your name wrong).....I would just like to know how much it costs to buy a founders cup because from what i have seen over the past few years that ive been in the league it takes a lot of money to pay for those calls late in the game ( as was tha case tonite.).....Ok peace out all, this is my post for tonite/morning and i would like to say peace out again because i know how much you guys like when i wrote about a game (maybe this time it wont get changed by someone like tha last time did)
Mister Bow dropper i read this article of yours --but is your view of the game and i wouldn't think of editing it--so please leave my postings alone Thank You
We played the gaels and there definatly not a bad team, actually there strong....but markham has to be the surpise of the year goin 5-0 so far beating the likes of Barrie, and the Gaels. All I know is that teams better start takin them serious considering they beat two of the top teams.
53rd consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 4 - 1952, 1957, 1958, 1959
OLA titles won: 10 - 1922, 1930, 1952, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1962,
1976, 1994
9 consecutive losing seasons
made playoffs last 2 years
Record in 21st Century: 22-63-3
2003 record: 8-14-2
Coach: Brian Beisel(0-0)
Best Player: Andy Secore took his game to the top level last year.
Next Superstar: Jamie Lincoln. We'll simply have to take what we can get this year and wait for him to get past his Founder's phase.
Key To Success: The transition to a new coach will need to be quick or the Excelsiors may start in a hole. Opener in Burlington crucial. With Whitby and Peterborough to follow, Brampton don't want to have to wait until they play Mississauga at the end of May for their first win.
Surprise Prediction: With the bottom four teams in the league anything could happen. I'd like to think they could all surprise.
Forecast: Personally, I wish I could predict a 4 way time for eighth but that would be a cop out. I do think that between Brampton, Burlington, Mississauga and Orillia any one could be a nice surprise. They all have terrific assets. Secore, Todd Bloxam, Ryan Campbell and Mike Carnegie are great players, Lincoln and Matt Quinton, perhaps John McClure, shall be fantastic down the road. I also have to assume the Excelsiors' goaltending is solid. How else could they afford to trade Ryan Blair?
Still each of the bottom teams have their flaws. The biggest concern in Brampton is the coaching change. Beisel may be the next Jim Bishop, however he's a rookie in a league loaded with experienced coaches. It's a handicap the Excelsiors must bear until Beisel gets his feet wet. The other concern is the loss of Dostie, Colin Holbrough, Souilliere and Orr to age. A significant loss for the second best offence in the league a year ago. Lincoln splitting time with Elora will likely mean a delay in his developement. The potential is there for Brampton to be even better this year. However that potential exists with all the bottom clubs. There's only so much room to improve.
29th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: none
OLA titles won: none
*Semi Finalist in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1988 - swept 4-0 each time
one winning season since 1980
missed playoffs last 2 years
Record in 21st Century: 23-65
2003 record: 3-17
Coach: Jeremy Tallevi(14-31-3)
Best Player: Merrick Thomson is back on form and should make up for last season.
Next Superstar: David Lomas must put a disappointing sophmore season behind him.
Key To Success: The Chiefs have many notable names but will they develop into top players? They could really use a boost from their Jr.B additions.
Surprise Prediction: The magic touch of Jeremy Tallevi won't be instantly golden in the Coaching Graveyard of Burlington.
Forecast: Another rebuilding year for the Chiefs. Given Tallevi's success in Brampton the past two years, I'd say Burlington have gotten the best man available. Yet coaching has never been the Chiefs problem. Burlington is the organisation which seems to rest on the San Andres Fault of lacrosse and there's an annual earthquake every May/June! Nevertheless, on paper the Chiefs are improving fast. Duncan Ross did not come back, however Trevor Meyerhoffer was acquired to replace him. I do believe Trevor Colm and Chris Davey have also come over from K-W. Merrick Thomson is having good NCAA season. Stefan LeBlanc, David Brock and Joel Leveille should all be nice additions from Oakville. Finally #1 draft pick Ryan Bernardi could make an immediate impact. It all sounds very good. Time will tell if Jeremy Tallevi can end Burlington's losing ways then build on his success. I really thought Ted Sawicki was on his way to doing that. How many years ago was that?
I picked a Tallevi coached team to finish last in 2003 and paid for it. It could be a good omen to pick him last again, however I won't be so foolish this time.
14th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: none
OLA titles won: none
*Semi Finalist in 1992 - lost 4-2 to St.Catharines
first winning season since 1998
made playoffs last season for first time in four years
Record in 21st Century: 26-63
2003 record: 12-13
Coach: Corey Hallman(17-28)
Best Player: Ryan Benesch could easily have been scoring champion last year.
Next Superstar: With no distractions Andrew Watt could take his game to the next level.
Key To Success: More balanced scoring. Duncan Ross a great addition. Still, last season's playoff effort(36 goals in 5 games) indicates a clear weakness.
Surprise Prediction: The Braves will have the best defence in the league.
Forecast: The Braves should most closely mirror the St.Catharines A's of past seasons this year. They'll play a similar front door/back door game. They'll get strong goaltending from Mike Poulin. They'll also get great efforts from Benesch, Aaron Wilson, Ross, Mark Tinning and Watt. Will others step up to give the necessary support? More importantly, will the Braves raise their game for the post season and win a series? I'd say they're a solid bet to do well. Career Jr.B star Richard Haan has been acquired. Draft pick Joe Pikul and rookie Alex Inch will merit watching. So K-W is putting the pieces together for a championship run. If we get treated to a Northmen/Brave Final it will be a shame that Brady Campbell is no longer wearing a brown shirt.
17th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: none
OLA titles won: none
*Finalist in 1967, 1968, 1974, 1975 - lost 4-1 in 1968 ending Gaels
perfect season
1 winning season in last 9 years
missed playoffs last 3 years
Record in 21st Century : 22-42
2003 record: 7-12-1
Coach Al Burton(32-74-2)
Best Player: Scott Gillingham. Great to see him one of the best in Jr.A, rather than another good Jr.B.
Next Superstar: Corey Stringer. He has the pedigree, Wayne Stringer was one of the best Hamilton Bengals ever! Should follow in Andy Secore's footsteps a couple of years from now.
Key To Success: They can't afford to have great efforts sabotaged by weak goaltending or defences lapses.
Surprise Prediction: It'd be nice to see the Tommies return with all their players back and no one quitting in mid season again.
Forecast: Missy has been blessed by dedicated leadership. First Paul Suggate, then Al Burton. Despite such committed coaching, the Tommies have never been able to make ground. Very frustrating! Not sure what's going on in Mississauga this year but they have a number of players who should do well and help the club improve. Veterans in their last year, like the Burtons, Gillingham and Moulson could all be great. My fear with the Tommies is: what will go wrong? Something always does. Two years ago Gillingham wanted to play Jr.B. Last year Shattler quit on them. Going back to the 1990s Missy regularly lost star players to BC. Thus I predict any Tommie improvement with reservations. The talent they have should get them into the playoffs. Murphy's Law says they won't.
14th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 3 - 1993, 1995, 1996
OLA titles won: 4 - 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000
11 consecutive winning seasons
made playoff 13 straight years
Record in 21st Century: 71-32-2
2003 record: 26-11-1
Coach: Lindsay Sanderson(145-73-3)
Best Player: Daryl Veltman may only miss 3 games because of school.
Next Superstar: Brady Campbell may always be in the shadow of Veltman and Nathan Sanderson but he ran the power play as a Northmen rookie, something Josh Sanderson did in 1994.
Key To Success: This team is a machine. Of course all systems break down eventually. The Roman Empire fell after 1,000 years. Perhaps the end will come for the Black Shirts then(unless there's still a Sanderson coaching them!).
Surprise Prediction: 32-0!
Forecast: A perfect season is a tall order. Orangeville play only four games in May, which leaves them with a heavy finishing schedule. As I understand it, their prep school kids will miss the first three. That's a big improvement over last year when Nathan Sanderson only played 13 games and Daryl Veltman only 8. Last May they relied upon Jamie Rooney to fill in. This time they'll have Rooney and Dane Dobbie, however the Elora pair will not be available for trips to St.Catharines and K-W. On the two other May dates they play for the Mohawks the night before. The Northmen will definitely be weaker the first part of the season. If they can go through that unbeaten then watch out! As for playoffs, I find it hard to imagine anyone beating Orangeville four times. When a consistently overachieving team finds itself with the best talent in the league then they're a safe bet.
The Black Shirts look even better for next year. If Elora can't win a Founders in 2003 then they might as well give up. Look for Rooney to belatedly make the jump to Jr.A for his final year. Good chance he'll bring Dobbie with him in 2005. Two trips west look to be part of the Northmen travel itinerary. The only monkey wrenches that could be thrown into the plans would be Whitby suddenly returning to powerhouse status or Mike Poulin being as good as Matt vinc. Don't expect either to happen overnight.
7th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 3 - 1937, 1939, 1940
OLA titles won: 3 - 1937, 1939, 1940
1 winning season in 6 years
missed playoffs last season
Record in 21st Century: 36-56-1
2003 record: 5-15
Coach: Bob Holder(5-15)
Best Player: Chad Thompson. Time for him to assume leadership roll. Last season he looked more likely to follow his brother's career.
Next Superstar: Mike McLeod, though Kings will have to share him with Jr.B again.
Key To Success: Molding a team with lots of youth and imported talent into a winner.
Surprise Prediction: Thompson a top ten scorer
Forecast: Not much news coming out of Rama so plenty of speculation here. Loads of young talent with McLeod, Mainer, Daikoff, Kerr, Balkwill and Gair. Not sure of the relationship but Jackson Gair is likely part of the Gair family dynasty. Remember Norman Gair who led Mimico to their only Mann Cup win in 1932? Or Jack Gair picked up by the Orillia Terriers for their last Minto triumph in 1940? Perhaps Gordon Gair one of only three players to score 100 goals in an OLA Sr.A season? Maybe Graeme Gair who led Mimico to a pair of second place finishes behind the Green Gaels in the mid sixties? I guess my point is, Jackson has some big shoes to fill. If he only half fills them the Kings will be pleased.
Simply put, lots of talent in Orillia but very young and unproven. McLeod committed to two teams is bad - he'll miss at least 6 games due to conflicts with Owen Sound schedule. They really need Chad Thompson to be a top ten scorer.
46th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 11 - 1961, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1981, 1982, 1983,
1986, 1987, 1989
OLA titles won: 14 - 1961, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1979, 1981,
1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989
1 losing season in 12 years
made playoffs 12 straight years
Record in 21st Century: 57-53
2003 record: 11-14
Coach: John Martin(195-92) - won 1986 & 1987 Minto Cups
Best Player: Shawn Evans could be the league's best if he stays out of the penalty box.
Next Superstar: Corey Vitarelli is running out of time, and his hockey career continues to interfer, but if he ever concentrates 100% on lacrosse then watch out!
Key To Success: Four games the opening week - St.Catharines twice, plus road trips to Whitby and Waterloo. Courageous opening which could net a psychological coup...or a disasterous 0-4 start!
Surprise Prediction: Josh Wasson scores 50 goals.
Forecast: Yes the Lakers led the league in scoring last season, however they only averaged 10 goals per game. That's clearly a statement on how bad the league was offensively. This year Peterborough must replace Dan Carey and Brian Croswell - a third of their goals a year ago. Cole Murray not returning is a blow to their seriously contending. At least they've found young Craig Robertson support in veteran Ryan Blair. That's a nice goaltending combo. Really 2005 looks like the season for the Green Machine to challenge. Hobbins, McIntyre and Wasson will all be in their final year. The youngsters will have had another year to mature. Plus Shawn Evans could be the best player in Junior twelve months from now. Still, don't count Peterborough out this summer. They are always lurking in the middle of the pack, just waiting to pop up and cause grief for some other team.
23rd consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 6 - 1947, 1950, 1990, 1991. 2001, 2003
OLA titles won: 16 -1914, 1920, 1921, 1932, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1947,
1948, 1949, 1950, 1990, 1991, 2001, 2002, 2003
21 consecutive winning seasons(a league record)
made playoffs 22 straight years
Record in 21st Century: 118-30-2
2003 record: 34-3-1
Coach: Don Smith(67-34-1)
Best Player: Is anyone left? Sean Kimpinski will get his chance to shine. Watch out for Kyle Neufeld.
Next Superstar: Take your pick. The A's are going for youth and there are several potential stars. Strictly guessing, key an eye on Chris Husband.
Key To Success: Don Smith's needs to rebuild the walls of Jericho one day after the trumpets blew.
Surprise Prediction: The Double Blues outscore last year's Minto winners. They'll need to!
Forecast: The Bob Luey Era is over, though his influence will remain. Looking back on his glorious run, it all began in 1998. After playoff success the A's had to replace quite a bit of graduating talent. Then to make matters worse, their top two players defected to Burnaby. Sound familiar? To conclude the story, St.Catharines still managed a trip to the Semi Finals in 1999 and there was no shame losing to an awesome Whitby squad.
Look for the Double Blues to drop some places but don't count on them being down for long. It shall be interesting to see which new stars will emerge this year. The '99 edition had the likes of Conn, Bowman, Russell, Vinc, Floris, Glaves and Rubel. Billy Dee Smith played 3 games and a kid named Greenhalgh suited up once. I doubt the A's have that much fresh talent waiting to ripen but they'll have some. It will also be interesting to see how good St.Catharines is by July and playoff time. A Semi Final appearance not out of the question. Yet the most important issue is another winning season. They just broke Peterborough's mark(1971-1990). A winning record this rebuilding season would likely mean the streak extending to 25 years or longer.
15th consecutive year in league
Minto Cups won: 1 - 1992
OLA titles won: 2 - 1992, 1998
2 consecutive losing seasons
made playoffs 7 straight years
Record in 21st Century: 64-46-1
2003 record: 8-16
Coach: not available
Best Player: Stew Monture is coming of a quiet but great year.
Next Superstar: Mitch Nanticoke was awesome as a midget last season. Best in Jr.A since Craig Conn.
Key To Success: If all the Jr.B players return to Jr.A then the Arrows could really make a move up.
Surprise Prediction: In 2003 only 3 players appeared in 20 games, while 20 played 5 or less. A more stable lineup is a safe prediction, don't you think?
Forecast: The return of the prodical sons? Many are expecting the Arrows to have all their top talent this year and to be the most improved club in the league. Personally, I have certain reservations. First, I haven't heard with 100% certainty that all the best players are returning to Jr.A. Second, even if they are in Arrow's uniforms, how good psychologically are players who voluntarily dropped down to a lower level going to be? It reminds me of what the Six Nations Chiefs faced two years ago when their three best young players all chose to play Sr.B. The next year they joined the A club, yet Six Nations still finished fifth out of six teams. Third, last year's playoff embarrassment - being shutout at home - still looms large. It's troubling because Six Nations created that situation themself by giving away their two best players late last season. In what credible league does a playoff bound team trade it's top two players for nothing? Only OLA Jr.A! I stress nothing because I have no idea what the Arrows got for Dus Nanticoke and Tom Montour. They did not receive draft picks because Six Nations did not draft anyone this year! Ultimately my problem is this: even if the Arrows are as improved as many hope for, how can we have any confidence they'll still have Stew Monture and Rayce Vyse in July?
It's normal for Six Nations to take two years to regroup then to bounce back better than ever. It they stick to that schedule then this will be their year to reemerge. The Arrows will be the team most likely to really surprise or really disappoint.
7th consecutive year in league
Minto Cups won: none
OLA titles won: 5 - 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919
2 consecutive winning seasons
made playoffs last 3 years
Record in 21st Century: 49-46
2003 record: 18-13
Coach: Jack Chisholm(40-29)
Best Player: Kyle Wailes. Brains and talent are a wonderful combination.
Next Superstar: Matt Keogh makes the jump to Junior.
Key To Success: They don't have as much talent to replace as the A's but they don't have the cushion of having been ten times better than everyone else. Rebuilding Beaches defence with young players will be a huge task.
Surprise Prediction: They'll fall but they won't collapse like they did after 1996. A credit to the organisation Fraser McDonald has built.
Forecast: Six crucial players have graduated. No John McLellan means an unproven netminder. Garett Kikot and Bobby McBride are key offensive losses - especially McBride in the playoffs...Mr.July. The defensive holes will be huge with Jonathan Durno, Ashley McLean and John Smithson gone. It's going to be a trying year for the Beach Boys.
They still have the best player in the league(Wailes) and Matt Holman, who is much better than he showed last season. After that the offence looks thin. Meanwhile experienced defenders cannot be replaced overnight. Yet I expect McDonald to be the most active GM in the league. The Beaches may have a few more assets to work with as we move into the season.
30th consecutive season in league
Minto Cups won: 5 - 1980, 1984, 1985, 1997, 1999
OLA titles won: 8 - 1960, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1984, 1985, 1997, 1999
10 consecutive winning seasons
made playoffs 10 straight years
Record in 21st Century: 64-50-2
2003 record: 14-14-1
Coach: Jeff McComb(28-26-2)
Best Player: Zack Greer. He'll be available the full year.
Next Superstar: Greer obviously. Let's see if Kyle O'Brien is to Greer what Joel Wilson is to Ryan Benesch.
Key To Success: 8.6 goals per game is an embarrassment for the Warriors. There will be a big improvement on that front. How much they can dominate offensively shall determine whether they separate themselves from the pack.
Surprise Prediction: Whitby will unleash numerous surprises: Strong goaltending, Josh Colley reminding us that he was once as good as Kyle Wailes, plus Tyler Perry and Conner Treacey(two B's about to make an impact in A).
Forecast: One thing was painfully clear in the Semi Finals last year, Whitby was a one man team. Zack Greer carried them. Unfortunately a rookie can only do so much against one of the greatest defences all time. This year, the Warriors need to ride Greer's coattails but they also need to give him the support which will make him the best in Junior lacrosse. Matt Taylor should be available the whole year and Josh Colley can't possibly disappoint yet again. The Jr.B additions will make up for the losses Stephen Hoar and Mark Craig. Goaltending
will be very strong as Rick Passfield establishes himself as one of the best.
One must be careful with Whitby and not get carried away by all the annual hype. Remember the "Run & Gun" offence? That lasted one exhibition game against Orillia! No one returning to the Warriors scored more than 23 goals last year. For a team which needs to have the best offence in the league a number of players are going to have to really step up this season. So I'm setting myself up for a major fall by rating the Warriors so highly. I simply have a hunch that they'll be very good and very offensive minded - like the great Whitby teams of the past. I suppose I'm just wishing that the league will be much better this year than the horrible seasons we've recently had to endure. As I see it, Whitby will lead the league out of the wilderness. Jr.A lacrosse worth travelling to see will be a nice change. Am I dreaming? Better to dream now before the season starts and reality sets in.
Brooklin Redmen Asst. Coaches Jim Weller and John Barbosa ran a spirited camp last night at IPSC, Troy Cordingley was on his way to Calgary for the NLL Champions Cup game where his Buffalo Bandits take on the Roughnecks.
General Manager, Barry Johnson, was able to sign Arizona Sting teammates Peter Lough and Kasey Beirnes last night as well as Redmen fan favourite, Steve Toll, coming off another season with the Toronto Rock.
Camp continues Friday night and Mon May 10 at 745 pm.
A Red and White intra-squad game is set for May 12, 2004 at 8 pm at the Garnet Rickard Complex in Bowmanville, cost is $ 4 for adults and $ 2 for children.
Redmen season tix are available, call Arie Lugtenburg at 905.725.9854, 20 % savings - pay for 7 games and get 2 free, adults only $ 56, seniors and high school students $ 42 and family packages at $ 120 for two adults and two children.
Opening game is Saturday May 15, 2004 at 7 pm, Redmen host St. Catharines.
... posted on here on a nightly basis. I really enjoyed that component to the site. Is there a way that those in the past who posted the full list of scores each night could resume doing that this year for lacrosse junkies across the province?
I know I can find the scores on the score and standings pages but this was a comprehensive list updated each night that I could check before going to bed.
Thanks

Oakville Buzz got off to a 6-1 first period lead & never looked back in Milton tonite. Got 5 Goals from Eric Beatty who is starting to really shine & 3 from Bryan Johnson. The Buzz allowed Milton to get too close with penalties at inopportune times, otherwise it could have been a real blow out. Milton hung in their with 5 pp goals due to Oakville penalties. Good job boys beating who you are supposed to beat, now it gets real tough. By the way 15-8 was the final.

The Puslinch Puddlejumpers were certainly a great team, with a great team name. The E-League shall miss them. Alas, their owner, along with the Guelph and Hamilton owners, went AWOL. Having no way of contacting them the E-League had to move on to the next generation.
Any particular Puddlejumper number you'd like Ben? #15 was awfully good!
Six Nations and Spartan, both teams played a good game but Rebels pulled it out. Rebels team looked young, but I think they could make another run at the Founders Cup this year.
I read in an article that Gavin Prout has a decision to make in regards to playing for Brooklin or Major League Lacrosse. Since he does not get paid to play for the Redmen and he would in the MLL, why would he choose to play in the OLA?
They interviewed Gavin on Oshawa Roger's Cable TV last week and he said his decision was about 50/50 in coming back to the Redmen. With Shawn Williams a definite things look better for the Redmen. Main man to me is Gee Nash but Gavin would fit in nicely. I think this year is going to be the most competitive it's been in a long time. Love to see Luke Wiles in a Redmen jersey too. I guess we all have to wait and see for another 10 days or so.
Of course money is important but it isn't everything. In Gavin Prout we have an intelligent, young man with an excellent education and fine prospects of earning all the money he'll ever need in life. On top of that he earns a decent sum playing lacrosse in the winter and has earned money in the MLL before. It's true Brooklin can't offer him more money, however money hardly seems to be Prout's #1 concern right now. What playing in the OLA, perhaps the Mann Cup, can offer is history. Does Gavin Prout want to just concentrate on earning money from lacrosse or does he want to be remembered by lacrosse fans fifty years from now? Money cannot buy legendary status. Of course he could go to the WLA, play for the Mann Cup and earn money(have his cake and eat it). I'm old fashioned. I like to think loyalty still means something to the players in the game today. The Brooklin Redmen have been awfully good to Gavin Prout.
Just finished getting back from the library and happy to say I found 6 more regular season goals for Jim McMahon and an additional 12 more goals for Ted Howe from the regular season that were missing. This gives Ted a combined total of 506 moving him into the top 50 in combined goals into 48th spot. Let's congradulate these two Athletic superstars, it might have been 43 years late in coming but you got those goals.

Six Nations Chiefs' announce the Player Signings for 2004 Major Season
Six Nations Chiefs are please to announce the player signing of 10 players for the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) 2004 Major Season following the third practice at the Gaylord Powless Arena (GPA).
Joining the Chiefs this season are Free-agent walk-on Gewas Schindler of National Lacrosse League NLL), Arizona Sting; former Six Nations Arrows and St.Catharines Athletes', Mike Longboat and one of the Chiefs draft picks from the 2004 OLA Major Draft, Brock Boyle from the Mississauga Tomahawks.
With the addition of Schindler and Boyle, it gives the Chiefs potentially 19 players that have had NLL experience. That does not include "Rocket" Roger Vyse and Delby Powless who are two projected NLL stars of the future.
Gewas Schindler was teammates of Chiefs' players Cory Bomberry and Kyle Jamieson this past NLL season. Schindler finished the NLL season with 67 (32G, 35A) points, 1 point more than Cory Bomberry's 66 (23G, 43A) points. Schindler has played for 4 NLL teams that began with the Philadelphia Wings before going to the New York Saints and eventually moving onto the Columbus Landsharks last season. The Landsharks moved the franchise to Phoenix, Arizona for the start of this past NLL season and became the Arizona Sting. Schindler began his professional career in the 2000-01 NLL season and has since accumulated 196 (92G, 104A) career-points in 58 career NLL games.
Former Six Nations Jr A Arrow, Mike Longboat was a nemesis in the playoffs against the Chiefs last season and Chiefs General Manager, Rusty Doxtdator said, "Mike Longboat is a player that I would rather have playing for us than against us."
The Chiefs obtained Longboat in a trade from St.Catharines. As it is Chiefs club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Longboat was one of the major threats in the St.Catharines attack last season that was tops in the OLA. Longboat will bring a strong outside shot and help the Chiefs increase their offense from the lowest scoring team in Majors last season. Longboat finished 2nd in team scoring and tied for 7th in the league with 52 (30G, 22A) points in 13 games. Longboat also contributed 16 (7G, 9A) points in 11 playoff games. Longboat was a member of the St.Catharines Jr “A” Athletics Minto Cup winning team in 2001.
Former Mississauga Tomahawk, Brock Boyle was also signed and he will provide a peskiness to the Chiefs penalty-killing unit. Boyle has played in a game for the NLL, Albany Attack in the 2002-03 season where he earned 14 minutes in penalties. Last season, Boyle had 14 (5G, 9A) points in 20 games for the Tomahawks and had 38 minutes in penalties. Size will not be one of Boyle's strengths, but you can not see the size of the heart that Boyle will bring to every game.
Other Chiefs that were signed on Saturday were Kyle Jamieson, Mark Anderson, Jason Henhawk, Chuck Doxtdator, Tim Bomberry, Tyler Bomberry and Clay Hill.
Two Six Nations Chiefs, Derek General and Chris Langdale will be vying for the NLL Champions Cup this Friday, May 7th at 10:30 p.m. EST. The Champions Cup Final will be aired live in Canada on the Score Television Network and live in the Buffalo/New York area via the Empire Sports Network. For those with satellite dishes, the game will be on DirectTV-channel 626 and Dish Networks Systems on Channel 428.
The Chiefs will be looking forward to two practices this coming week at the GPA. The first will be on Tuesday, May 4th at 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the second will be Saturday, May 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Chiefs’ Head Coach, Duane Jacobs has been putting the team through some tough practices as he gets the players ready for the season opener on Thursday, May 13th in St.Catharines. The home opener for the Chiefs will be on Saturday, May 15th at the Gaylord Powless Arena in Ohsweken with game time set for 7 p.m. against Akwesasne Thunder. That will be followed up with a Sunday afternoon affair against the re-vitalized, Windsor Warlocks starting 2 p.m. at the GPA.
The Chiefs are taking applications for volunteers for the 2004 OLA Major Series season.
Wray Maracle
Six Nations Chiefs Director of Media Relations
The Buzz beat the Saints today @ Maplegrove 9-5. Eric Beatty with 3 goals, Brenden Thenhaus with 2 goals, Joel Leveille 1g, Mike McLaughlin 1g, Morgen Thenhaus 1g, & Midget Chris Corbeil with his first Junior goal. Craig Willis was game MVP with a tremendous performance in net for the Buzz. He made 56 saves & kept the Saints from upsetting the Buzz. Good win after first loss on Friday nite.

Before I update, let me rant a bit and thank the many people who have supported Jordan through out his battle with cancer.
I have been involved in this glorious game for over 35 years. I have had the privilege of playing, coaching, referring, being on the ORLA executive and Burlington Minor executive. All along I have never expected anything from my years of serving except to further the game and hope that others may enjoy the game as much as I have.
As some of you may be aware in August 2002, 2 weeks before the novice provincials, my son Jordan was diagnosed with cancer.
I would like to thank all those members of the lacrosse community who offered their support to Jordan and our family throughout his battle.
Pat Campbell for all he did.
Boyler and the guys from the Burlington Senior B for organizing a fundraiser in December help cover the cost of Jordan's treatment.
The Brownells who helped Johnny with fundraiser and who have been there helping out thought out.
The BMLA executive, who while I was president and after I finally had to resigned picked up the ball and kept things going while I cared for Jordan.
The ORLA and OLA for their support
There are many, many more thank you all.
A strong and courageous warrior, fighting a valiant battle.
Where the strength came from I can't fathom, pushed on by an inner fortitude to win the day.
And alas the war is over and warrior has gone home. It is time for peace and sanctuary, having to fight no more.
His strength and resilience would make any father proud.
To Tom & his wife I send my condolences on their loss. As a parent & a coach of many young men in my years, I cannot begin to feel what you as parents are feeling right now but to you I say Jordan is in a better place & is once again whole in mind & body. He fought a courageous but losing battle but won in the end because he is with our Father. God Bless you both. Donna & Glen Little

On Behalf of the Mimico Junior "B" Lacrosse Club, we would like to offer Tom and his Wife and Family our deepest Sympathy on the loss of your Brave Warrior.
Our Lacrosse Team will be holding a Moment of Silence for Jordan at our game Friday and I suggest all the teams do the same this week at their games.
Who changed what i wrote to that???i wrote a game story and it says that???? maybe that is why everyone says i am illiterate....people keep writing that....i really wrote about tha game, so i use different writing and spelling than tha rest of you on here but you still know what i am writing.....I gave a game recap for everyone who wasnt in attendance but someone wrote about being panziees. or how ever they spelt it....ok peace out everyone hope no one is upset with me because i dont like when people are upset with me...it makes me cry...ok peaceout
I've added a link to the CAN-AM Senior B history (league standings and top 10 scorers) but unfortunately it only goes back for 4 years. If anybody out there has stats on the league prior to 2000 I'd greatly appreciate them letting me know so I can build up on this file.
Having read the opinion about the draft and how it is not working, I've come up with why it is not working. The draft works in hockey because of the prominence of the sport. You cannot compare hockey to Lacrosse. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Although not perfect, establishing a territorial system is the only way to set up Junior A and Major for now. As the sport grows and gains more prominence, only then will the draft work. In conclusion, get back to territorial rights for now, put a big push on growing the sport, and only then look at establishing a draft.
In a game dominated by Elora early , the Spartan Warriors came back to make it interesting at the end. The final was 9-7 Elora. The Mohawks raced out to a 6-0 first period lead and it looked like it was going to be a blowout. It was 8-2 at the end of the second, and still looked like Elora had full control of the game. Ryan Monaghan made several highlight reel saves to keep his team in it and provide the spark for the Warriors improved play in the third. Spartan continually took advantage of some Mohawk sloppy play in the third to pull to within two, but it was too little too late. Became an entertaining game after the start it had.
SPARTAN: Ryan Monaghan 0,2; Tyler Geoffrey; Jamie Downie (4); Matt Attwood; Jason Mazachowski (17); Bryan Bazylewski 1,1; Donevan Ruesen 0,2; Garrett Ball (24); Tony Walker 0,1(2); Matt Tattrie 0,1(2); Cody Printup; Mark Bamonte (10); Joe Murray (2); Andrew Burkholder 0,3(2); Brandon Fung (2); Pete Ragnar (2); Spike Marwick (2); Adam Moore 3,0; Jeff Martin; Kyle Flaherty 1,0(7).
ELORA: Graham Cousins; Matt Fallis; Davin McDougall 1,0; Jeremy Machin 1,0(20); Travis Fowlie 0,1; Mike Piluk; Mike Weadick; Jon Snider 0,2; Matt Quinton (6); Jarrett Denny; Jamie Rooney 2,3; Scott Wilson; Dan Montgomery (2); Jordan Bosomworth 1,0(5); Tyler Johnston 2,3(15); Dustin Jsnssen; Jamie Lincoln 0,1(6); Brett Johnston; Stefan Wallace; Dane Dobbie 3,2(2).
Just got home from a fantastic week-end of lacrosse socializing and nostalgia. Friday night went to the St.Catharines Old Boys club banquet and what a night of nostalgia it was. I don't know how many were there, at least 200, but what an emotional night seeing the likes of Jimmy McMahon,Pat Smith, Kenny Croft, Whitey Frick, Ted Howe, Nip O'Hearn, way too many to mention. It was the best meal I've had in about 10 years, roast beef supper, every bottle of beer and shot of liquor was gone by the end of the night. The hightlight for me was spending an hour and a half with Jim McMahon and my trusted tape recorder and hearing tales of the golden age of lacrosse in the 40's. Jim played Senior A from 1942 till 1961 and loves to talk lacrosse. His older brother Wandy, who passed away sometime ago and Jim are both in the top 50 of all time goalscorers in the history of box lacrosse, each with well over 500 goals in Canadian Senior A lacrosse and I was happy to inform Jim that I found another 35 goals or so for him from the 1952 season which will move him up another 10 places or so. The highlight of Jim's career was being a member of the 1946 St.Kitts Mann Cup team when he ended up 4th in league scoring with an amazing 77 goals. Now that I finally broke down and bought a tape recorder I'm looking forward to recording interviews with a lot of the super stars from the past and hopefully if my other historical duties slow down for awhile, want to type in these interviews, loading them onto the BIBLE and hopefully, fullfill a lifetime dream of writing a book about these guys. Jim telling me stories of the days of playing in outdoor bowls like the Haig Bowl in the 40's in front of 4,000-5,000 fans made me nostalgic for a time and place long gone.
They celebrated the 1979 St.Kitts provincial Junvenile champs and the 1944 Mann Cup St.Catharines Athletics team on the night with Kenny Croft, Don Bye and Whitey Frick being present from that team of 60 years ago.
What a night for a lacrosse fanatic. Met Blain McDonald, a hero I'd only read about who is another all-time top 50 goalscorer who played most of his lacrosse in Mimico. Man I could go on and on but there's so much I'll miss. Anywhere I looked it was a virtual all-star team from practically any year you picked, Ted Howe is another all-time top 50 scorer that I know I'm missing some of his goals and I'll start right back at it tomorrow as the library informed me the microfilms of 1951 St.Catharines Standard have arrived, and to me, I feel like a little kid at Christmas, ready to open my favourite new gift.
I want to thank the Old Boys for having me and hope to see you all again at next years do. Thanks for the great memories.
It is commonly believed that one OLA major team, pays every player. We are not talking professional lacrosse player. I have heard, that in most cases, its an honorarium statement.
Heresay has it that one OLA player, earned $25,000 a couple of years ago, playing for one of the teams. I won't repeat whose name is linked with this salary, for it may not be true. I don't know.
I expect that 95% of the players do not get paid. And, I will go beyond that. I would include in that figure, coaches, team managers, and executive board members.
The hours of time contributed by thousands of people throughout Ontario is for the most part a selfless statement of their love for the sport.
Well with not much practice time and with the Gaels going since March the score was 13-3 Gaels--hope things go better Sunday against the Oakville Buzz 2pm at Maplegrove Arena
What has happen to ontariolacrosse.com updates?
It appears nobody is running the ship right now.
There have been no updates on any of the games since last weekend.
It certainly makes the Ontario Lacrosse Association look more Bush League.
I sure hope they get back online soon and update everything to the current dates.
Oakville Buzz lost a hard fought battle against Mimico tonite 11-8. Mimico played strong defensively & when needed Kevin Olmstead did a nice job between the pipes. Buzz played with 5 Oakville Midgets in the lineup & with all that inexperience in the lineup performed rather admirably. The future looks real bright for the Buzz. Buzz will be back at it Sunday @ 2pm @ Maplegrove against the Saints to try & go 3-1. Good game but great effort by all the Buzz players tonite. Keep your heads up nothing to be ashamed of you competed hard & experience won out tonite.

I picked a Mitchell up from Sandersons Sports two weeks ago. They had about six when i was there. I also think its one of the best sticks out right now, so head up there if to check them out.
thats where most of my info was coming from, sandersons bought out the rest of the goalie sticks from MIL, they have none any longer.... have you got your stick throwing yet edwards? if you dont give it to me so i can string it you fool
I have a Williams right now and it's great. I've heard good things about the Mitchell's as well. I was interested in passing on some information to other goalies.
In the 2003 summer campaign, Shawn Williams played for the Coquitlam Adanacs. In the 2004 National Lacrosse League season he played for the Rochester Knighthawks and stepped up his role as an offensive threat when sniper John Grant Jr went down with an injury. He played 16 games for the Hawks, scoring 45 goals, adding 36 assists for 81 points. He was 8th overall in the NLL in points and 3rd overall in goals scored, at a pace of almost three goals a game over the course of the season.
Tonight, Redmen General Manager, Barry Johnson, is pleased to announce that # 51 will once again wear the Redmen uniform for the 2004 summer season. Williams is sure to boost a team that had a very good showing in 2003 despite a number of people who wrote them off after a number of veterans did not return to the line-up.
Redmen training camp continues in preparation of their season opener Saturday May 15, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. when they host St. Catharines Major Athletics at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.

We sized them up. We measured them, top to bottom. We've done our own Tale of the Tape, and we've come to a surprising conclusion. Pound for pound, the toughest sport in the world is . . .
Boxing.
The Sweet Science.
That's the sport that demands the most from the athletes who compete in it. It's harder than football, harder than baseball, harder than basketball, harder than hockey or soccer or cycling or skiing or fishing or billiards or any other of the 60 sports we rated.
In Page 2's Ultimate Degree of Difficulty Grid, boxing scores higher than them all.
Think boxing's not tough? Go toe-to-toe with former heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman in the SportsNation chat room.
But don't take our word for it. Take the word of our panel of experts, a group made up of sports scientists from the United States Olympic Committee, of academicians who study the science of muscles and movement, of a star two-sport athlete, and of journalists who spend their professional lives watching athletes succeed and fail.
They're the ones who told us that boxing is the most demanding sport -- and that fishing is the least demanding sport.
We identified 10 categories, or skills, that go into athleticism, and then asked our eight panelists to assign a number from 1 to 10 to the demands each sport makes of each of those 10 skills. By totalling and averaging their responses, we arrived at a degree-of-difficulty number for each sport on a 1 to 100 scale. That number places the difficulty of performing each sport in context with the other sports we rated.
On the grid below, click on each sortable category to find out how our 60 sports rank in each skill. A glossary key is included at the bottom of the grid that explains each category.
So put on the gloves, get in the ring and let the roundhouse hooks begin

Thursday Night, April 29th. 8 PM at the fabulous Garnet B Rickard Recreational Complex in downtown Bowmanville. The OLA Junior B season gets underway for the Green Gaels. The always tough Saints, featuring Ontario U19 All Star and former Gael Dayne Boatswain, are in town for the home opener. And you know that core group of Saints supporters will be there right along with them.
This years edition of the Gaels will be something to watch! With the level of skill and speed this team has, GM Doug Luey is promising more run 'n gun breaks that will give opponent's defences fits. Coached by NLL stars Jason Crosbie, Jonas Derks and Gee Nash, you can bet that the Gaels will also be schooled in the smarts that turn a great player into a great pro. This promises to be an exciting year for the Green Gaels - so don't just wish them well, come out and cheer them on!
I came on this site this afternoon and noticed that someone had replied to a Question I had Asked Regarding the St. Catherines A's Coaching Staff.
Furthermore a thread had taken place asking about the Commitment that the coaching staff had, seeing as they had Left the Team in Mid-season a few years ago.
Now Tonight I log back on, With interest to see if any other people had commented on the situation, only to see the the entire posting has been removed.
Any Reason as to Why is was taken off here?
Lacrosse Season is just getting started, and I thought that the Thread was the 1st reasonible lacrosse post i have seen on this site in sometime....
(Besides the ever popular "toughest JR "B" player ever thread that goes around 44 times a season")
Just Wondering what Happened to a legitimate thread actually Involving Lacrosse ??
I deleted my post which results in the replies to it being deleted as well.
It seems that my post, which I thought was fair comment, although presented in a somewhat sarcastic fashion, offended the sensibilities of some of the folks here. I agree with your thoughts though. This seems like a very odd pairing given the events of 1999.
Hopefully Hinkson can find a way to make his next coaching opp. last longer than his last......what was it 3 games in New Jersey?......maybe there will be a book about this one......

It seems our Hartford Boys will be back on time. Rough season there. Garrett Kikot finished his eligibility with us in 2003.
Wes MacDonald's Hobart club are doing well, as is Kyle's Brown club.
I'm sorry, I have no update from Canisius at this time.

With the "B" season underway, and "A" season a few weeks away, some of the teams are missing players that are playing field in the States, either at college or at prep school. The "A" season starts 2 weeks later this year so the impact is less, as some of these Stateside players are impact players on their respective teams, and others are quality players that add to the depth of the "A" club. The US college players return in the 3rd week of May or so, depending on how far their college team progresses. The players at the prep school, all play in the New England Prep School league, and depending on exams, return in the first week of June as a rule. The following is a list of players in the States, picked from the various websites. Players like Zywicki (Orrilia) or Wiles (Delaware) are not listed as they are too old for junior. If any have been overlooked, or errors, please feel free to add them on:
