I have seen 427 blocks that do not have a casting number anywhere visible on the exterior of the motor. Some of these have clues on the inside of the bell housing area, but we looked over every square inch of two we've had in the shop and found absolutely nothing in the way of an identification number.
Ford apparently ran a service contingency stock for recalls, rebuilds, and they were available until the supply was exhausted, which it is now. Of course now you can buy a new one, supposedly as good or better than the old one (but heavier, with questionable metalurgy).
