Response to The Q motor cylinder id |
| Hi Mark,
If the flywheel and the distributor are on the same end of a Chevy motor, that's normally the rear of the motor. Yes, I have a CC motor with distributor driven off the transmission housing, but in just about all other uses, the distributor is at the flywheel side of the motor. Right?
Well if this is so, then look at the last two diagrams in this thread.
The F series has cylinders 7 and 8 up against the flywheel and distrubutor.
The Q series has cylinders 1 and 2 up against the flywheel and distributor.
Therefore my contention is, CC renumbered the cylinders on a GM motor, and for WHAT purpose I don't know!
Logic would suggest the GM motor would always have the cylinder identified in relation to the flywheel, and not the direction in which the customer happened to rotate the motor for the day. I realize my logic may be someone elses chaos, but the Q is a weird duck for sure.
Note, the flywheel is not installed over the timing gear on these motors, it's always on the "rear" end of the motor.
Paul
