CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Response to Here is another reference to the SBC motor

Here goes Paul pictures may help the 350Q had its flywheel moved to the front of the engine along with the distributor drive I do not think the motor was turned around and the cylinders renumbered, but that is possible I guess. Too many other things are in the right place to me for the motor just to be turned around and mounted backwards but here you go.

bare block flywheel at rt side in pic

here you can see the crank and flywheel etc assembly

Now this is the business end of the motor where the transmission hooks up

and here is the motor fully assembled see it looks normal when you can't see the distributor if you look in this pic you can see why Chris Craft did what they did. The motor was designed flywheel forward for clearance purposes in my boat they are mounted at an angle downward to the trans. That is also why the intake manifolds are so hard to find. You can see how the carb is tilted forward in the pic it is level when mounted.
