CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Response to I'm having a problem with this one, help!

Paul,

You are indeed correct. The "Q" motors (that I have worked on) are just SBCs that have been rotated 180 (flywheel forward) and strapped to stringers. The cam drives the distributor on the flywheel end of the engine and the crank to cam drive/timing is on the other end. The only real difference is that the starter rotates clockwise on the reverse rotation engine which causes the engine crank to rotate counterclockwise. This "reverse" rotation is eliminated at the crank to cam by using gear to gear (no chain) timing without an idle gear. So the cam and oil pump and distributer all rotate in the same direction as all "normal" rotation SBCs. I don't know a thing about the "F" motors and I have no clue as to why CC wants to change cylinder numbering based on which way the flywheel faces.

Oh congrats on the FINE work ya'll did and remind me to never showup on one of your project sites!

I tried to search the site on "31" to pullup all the posts on the most popular model CC made in the late 60s to early 70s the 31' Commander and didn't get any hits, are numbers not indexed and searchable? I maybe changing gears to a 31' and you said your Dad has a nice 31' any chance of a photo layout with stats ie. fuel consumption, usual problems, known issues, speed, handling etc.

TIA
Wes
