Response to Whatever it is, it doesn't sound serious |
| After much head scratching this spring I finally got both of my 350Q running very well only to have them both go nuts this last week on the way to Put In Bay neither motor would develop rpms. The port was popping back through the carb above 1900 and the starboard was acting like it has fuel starvation issues so don't ask me right now. I am going crazy on these two lately. I changed both fuel filters the starboard was clean but the port motor had an 1/8 inch of crud in it. Both motors still ran badly coming back from the Island on Sunday. Luckily I had Tim behind me checking on me every so often to see that I was ok. He waited until I was in Sandusky Bay to pass me and head on back to the docks. Thank God for good friends. I was not real happy with the motors when I got back so I didn't touch them. I will be looking at them this weekend possibly but I have company coming to spend the weekend on the boat, unfortunately it won't be going anywhere. Your description of the problem concerning the fuel pump pushing air bothers me I don't think it should be doing that you may need a rebuild or a new pump. I would test the fuel pressure from that pump to make sure. If you find a source for rebuild kits for the carters let me know of it please. I have 4 of them and would like to rebuild them all if I could. I am about ready to see if I can find a set of 427's to put in this thing and be done with it. Would be nice to have that extra 65 hp per side swing and some nice 4 blade 22x24 props or so maybe I can get some props like Tim has at 22x26. But I don't know at this point I have a feeling my problem is electrical on the port and fuel related on the stbd. You on the other hand need to answer some more questions is sputtering through the carb or the exhaust? does it rev fine without a load? Inquiring minds want to know. |
