CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Pertronix calls for the resistors to remain in place, other brands may not

Response to switched 12v source

Normally the resistor is attached to the clamp holding the coil in place, as Bruce Martin has done (in chrome) with his fabulous 427 rebuild below.

The Pertronix system requires the resistor to stay, see this link for details.

On the Edelbrock I would follow the directions to switched power. Hooking to the coil scares me, and the Edelbrock installation manual has the following words: "(negative terminal(-) on electric choke) black wire to ground, (positive terminal red wire (+) to ignition key activated 12V source; NOT coil or ALTERNATOR ! ".

I have not installed my Edelbrock on the speedboat project yet, but I guess the positive side of the ignition circuit going to the starter motor would be a thought. This would only activate the choke momentarily, and I don't fully understand the operation of the Edelbrock yet. Don't hook to the coil though.

Regards, Paul
