| If you notice steam coming from your exhaust system, it is a sign that the head gasket, or perhaps the exhaust manifold itself is starting to fail. If you have a small hole in that exhaust manifold or riser, you can siphon enough water into a cylinder through that hole to cause the kind of damage you see in Glens photo. Water doesn't compress. Keep an eye on the exhaust system, if you see steam, you better start checking those plugs, and take action.
