CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Response to 1973 41 Flush Deck for Sale, can be seen at the Detroit Yacht Club

Hello Ed,

Sorry to hear you're selling CASSABLANCA, but sooner or later we all face the same issue with our boats. They outlast our ability to keep interested, etc., and that is one reason I say that "ownership" of one of these fine Commander boats is more like a tenure of responsibility, rather than ownership. We're just the custodian until such time we pass the boat to the next guy.

Hopefully for you, there is another Commander in your future, either larger or smaller.

In any case, the 41 is a great design and your 41' Flush Deck is a beauty. The last time I was at DYC, I got the impression they would let a boat into the dockage unless it met pretty high standards, and your boat gives this impression too. The 41 is a great model, being only 3 feet longer than my 38 Express, it is huge inside by comparison using that extra foot of beam and tall freeboard to great effect.

If anyone is interested in a 41, here are some scans and promo material that should be of interest, including a short video of a 41 making a run across the Baltic Sea in rough weather. Anyone who suggests this isn't a good rough weather boat should take a look at this video, because it's rougher conditions than most of us would attempt. Here is the link to some reference material on the 41 Flush Deck, of which only 151 hulls were made between 1972-77.

I've mentioned in the past that the 41 is the model that moved from the Express and Sedan format of the 38' boats, into true "yacht status", becuase of the huge increase of interior volume. This model is essentially equal in weight to a 38' Sport Fisherman (with flybridge), and would make one heck of a fun cruising boat, would be great for entertaining guests, and extended week-end or short live-aboard during cruises around Lake Superior like Terry and Donna Hart did last season. They visited a small town in one of their favorite harbors, anchoring their 45' TF and commuting via dinghy. Your 41 would also be very enjoyable on a cruise circuit like that.

Sonia and Oliver Oelgart are cruising the Mediterranean in their 41, and they've been on several long cruises. Their great threads can be found here, showing what kind of fun you can have on a Commander this size.

We wish you the best of luck, hope we can give you a little exposure here, and help get a good boat into the hands of an appreciative new owner. In the interim, we hope you find another Commander, larger or smaller as the case may be!

Regards,

Paul
