Response to E10 gasoline, Racor fuel/water seperator ( photos ) |
| I have E-10 in my 23 commander. Boat sat for at least 9 years+. Put in 20 gals of E-10, You have a problem. Water in tank to start with. I installed a sight filter and the gas was emulsified, white. The ethanol really caused existing water to be a problem. Next, Filter clogging up. All varnish and other debris seem to all come to life after years.
Here's the good news. Starbright makes a tank cleaner that works great. I drained my tank w/ much sediment visable through the hose. Left a few gals in, added tank cleaner. Now after 2 days, the remainder of fuel is at least clear and free of sediment. Siphon that out and good to go!
Startron is now mandatory for me. I ran 6 gallons untreated E-10 from a remote tank. After burning one tank, I had carbon build up that became a fast problem. Large pieces of carbon actually being blown out the exhaust. I heard that you can do serious damage in as quick as 20 hours. I certainly believe that. Added 1 oz of startron. Night and day difference. Much better range, clean burn, no hesitation and full power at top end. It has been frustrating, but I beleive she's good to go now.
