CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Carb Problems

Response to carb issue not solved

I will assume by booster venturis you mean the secondaries are pouring gas out of the tubes. If that is so wow you did something really wrong. If you are speaking of the main venturi I would say you have a problem with the floats. The carter is an avs or air valve secondary carb it has no secondary booster venturis, the air valve is the secret to the AVS. The measurements you give in another post are correct for your carb. I rebuilt two of them wiht only a minor problem and that was a sticking float it wouldn't open so I couldn't get gas for the secondaries. If you read the carter carb book by david emanuel look on page 11 to get the full scoop on the AVS. Also the AVS has three step metering rods instead of two step rods.
How did you tighten the spring on the air valve? it should be at 2 turns after it just starts to close.
Any other questions go ahead and post em we can get this straightened out.
