CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Response to carb issue not solved

The gas is leaking out of a brass tube that empties into the venturis shown with the red arrow. (It is happening in both of them) They mount where the geen arrows are on the body of the carb. It is listed as item #27 on the spec rebuild sheet listed earlier post. The old floats looked ok but I went ahead and bought new ones anyway. The floats were centered, movement was good and needles moved up and down. Carb looks fairly level when mounted.

The metering rods had three steps to them but I would not say very pronounced. I dont have a frame of reference or experience to know how they should exactly look. And there were no replacements in the kit. Do they have replacments and would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace them? Would they be causing the problem I am seeing or the floats?

As for the secondary air valve I did not touch anything. And as near as I can figure, it is not what is shown in the book. The spring I assume they are talking about is on the shaft shown in the picture below?

I find the Carter carb book confusing. I don't really know a lot about carbs, but it seems that they sometimes mix differnt pics and references that don't correspond to the carb being written about. But maybe its just me.

Thanks for the help

Bill
