| Good to see that bulletin after all these years. I see I have forgotten most of it!
A Type N drill is just a diameter sized by letter; a long length bit is a good idea here.
Because the pushrod is driven into the reamed hole, I have used hardened pushrods for this repair; perhaps Smith Brothers can provide you with some blank stock.
Mcmaster-Carr has the reamers and long drill bits - you should have the stock in hand before you order the reamer.
(I used a .001 interference fit for the pushrod.)
When I did this in place, I plugged the hole at the cam with strips of cotton and tamped it in place. After the machining and cleaning I was able to use a smaller dia bit to reach down by hand and snag the cotton…
Just a note, I have seen damage at the adjacent bolthole near the deck and used the pushrod full length from the deck to the bottom of reamed hole. |
