Bryan, you are SO RIGHT on the ignition switch issue. It may not be the cure for the particular ailments being discussed, but it sure cause ME a lot of headaches in the past. I tried diagnosing all kinds of things, carbs, distributors, timing, valves, whatver, and it turned out to be the darn ignition switch wires fraying one at a time, degrading the performance and finally just kicking off all together.
When the wire finally frayed and parted all together, then I had to trace things back and discovered it was the ign switch itself.
In addition, in my 1966 Commander and I suspect many others, there is a blade switch on the main electrical panel. You pull that into the off position and your motor stops. Therefore, if that old blade is corroded, or lightly in contact, good luck making your motor run right. I had that headache too, and it's one of the reasons I enjoy trading stories here on the forum, to help people and to also learn some tricks from their headaches of the past.
