CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Interesting performance numbers

Response to Diesel, good under certain conditions. Here is how Warren Pateman did it !

Well I just watched the San Diego Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts, go figure. Now I'm getting ready to watch Dallas put a whipping on NY.

I was curious about the ZF transmission Warren used, and for a minute or two, I thought the spec may have been wrong. Very interesting performance figures he got from that rig.

At 2800 RPM those diesels must have huge torque, because he is spinning 29" props (diameter, not pitch). The larger diameter wouldn't make the boat go any faster, but it sure would cut down on the slippage. It looks like he must have been using a 23" pitch. In any case, he was able to turn out a 32.8 mph speed at 2800 rpm, which just tells me those diesels must be real torque monsters.

The 1.45:1 reduction of 2800 rpm equates to 1931 rpm prop speed. That puts him right around 32 or 33 mph. Interesting that he used such a big diameter prop. Wonder what shaft size he used?

Also, did he ever mention what his fuel consumption was?

Back to the game now!

Tom
