Response to A little mahogany work

Here is a photo of Mark Weller, ready to commence varnishing. Many people use various techniques that work for them, Mark, as you can see here, prefers to don the appropriate attire for the occasion. The results speak for themselves !

It has been said, that in order to achieve THE PERFECT VARNISH JOB, you must use a single hair badger brush, at night under the full moon, nude, while the dogs are barking. This technique has worked for several forum participants in the past. Mark, on the other hand, wears a tux when he is performing this noble deed. If anyone else uses this technique, please write in and let us know if it works for you. Some of the rest of us may want to try it too. (yes, I have to admit, I photoshopped that paint brush into the photo, sorry Mark, I couldn't resist )

Here are some of the (other) woodworking and finishing tips from our archives, and from recent threads that have yet to be archived. There are some exceptionally good tips here, and they’ve been tried and true.

-----> Interior woodwork refinishing tips
This thread explores how to put on new layers of varnish on old mahogany that doesn’t need to be sanded http://www.network54.com/Forum/424840/message/1131059156

-----> Exterior Helm Replacement and Finishing
This thread explores how to source good mahogany marine plywood, and finish it with a roller, when the wood is laid down flat on a work bench. The results are so stunning you could shave in it.

-----> Schooner 96, my favorite varnish !
This thread compares various varnish and which one gives the best results. Interesting to know, it is also endorsed by wood boat restoration EXPERT and friend to the Chris Craft Commander Forum, Inc., Robert DaPron.
