CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Every runabout should be fitted with one of these double valve systems

Response to I'm plumbing up a "quick winterization circuit" on my runabout

flipping a couple ball valves allows me to start the motor by drawing water off the container as shown, and I can also backfeed the container with a garden hose. It allows me to do some nice tuning at the house, instead of doing it in the water.

Naturally, when it comes time to winterize, I'll fill the container with antifreeze and do the freezer test again to be sure it's not dilluted. I run the antifreeze through the motor three times by continuing to fill the feed container from the collection containers. Boat is winterized and turn-key ready for that mid winter boat ride.

Looking back many years ago, I recall running a 95-hp Hercules at WOT across Percy Priest Lake with a buddy, both dressed in our goose down coats, in the middle of the winter. We were crazy back then, and we (both) still are. He turned out to be my best man at my wedding 26 years ago. Those mid winter boat rides can be fun, because there are some nice unexpected warmish days here in Tennessee. 40-degrees seems like a heat wave!

Ah well, thankfully we still have a LOT of boating to do until winterization, but the reason I'm posting this thread again, is because the valve system I have installed has allowed me to do carb and electrical tuning work here at the house, by tossing the intake line into a container as shown and flipping the two valves. It works great, every runabout should have a system like this!

Regards,

Paul
