CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Response to Marketing photo versus reality ( one SWEET unmolested 31 Sports Express )

Looking at this well maintained pristine example speaks volumes. It seems to me that when someone decides it is "necessary" for them to gain some sort of satisfaction by drilling holes, adding equipment, changing things around to suit their whim, it is more of a need for personal accomplishment than it is something a previious owner will appreciate. I would much rather look at an original boat than one that has been "customized" by the previous owner. I suspect most of the customization work would be appreciated more by the person who did it, than someone interested in buying or owning his work.

As noted in other posts, Warren Pateman being an example, there sure are some good examples out there too. Having said that, however, I think your theme of caution and restraint is very good when it comes to classic boats of any kind. Our Commanders fall somewhere in a grey area, not the high end mahogany collectable, but still collectable and to be appreciated enough to not be thought of as "throw away boats". Not by a long shot.
