CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ®
.......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris-Craft Commander series. This is an independent not-for-profit and non-commercial web site, not affiliated with the Chris Craft Commander Club ~~ or ~~ Chris-Craft Corporation. Our mission here is to "have fun and share information" about the Commander series (and those associated fiberglass boats on the Chris-Craft family tree) for your individual personal use, and by doing so help promote the good name of Chris-Craft, and help preserve, restore, and appreciate Chris-Craft boats. The main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX File which contains what we believe to be the world's largest collection of documentation photos and technical information on the Chris-Craft Commander line of boats, (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic first 38 Commander styled by Fred Hudson, and many of the great Dick Avery renditions that followed) , (a huge collection of Chris-Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the forum.
We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !" Come on in, make yourself at home, we are a friendly group of enthusiasts, and we also appreciate the classic Chris Craft Roamer, Corsair, and Lancer boats too , as they are all on the same family tree and share much in common !
All:
My first day back, I went out to see the Summer Palace and the work done on here. She is really beginning to look nice from the hull work. Tom, your comment on the boot stripe was heeded and the white line added. She really looks nice now and I will take photos when the weather improves. The swim platform looks great and will be a welcome addition. I will add the teak later. Photos later. We started up the big 454s in the shop and they ran great. What a roar. I have to admit that I thought about putting one in the 1949 Chevy I am restoring. What a gas that would be! I checked on the work of my 3 other boats over there and that is going OK. I have a lot of irons in the fire, I know, but it works out some how.
I am working with Bill in FL to get the 31 footer up here to work on, and with Chris Wade to get him to down here to help me clean up my shop. I can never turn down free labor! Photos later of Chris actually working and not sitting in a chair, hopefully, maybe, probably, some chance, OK, remote chance.
I am going to make some dollies, customized to fit the 454s, so that Chris and I can just roll the big dogs out, use the hoist and set them in the truck or trailer that Chris brings. Then we will just lash them in place. Chris will just reverse it on the other end.
Hopefully, I will have 3 weeks of leave now to R&R. My last day in the FOB ended with the capture of two caught red handed setting up rocket tubes. The captures are great, but my position may have been comprimised so I am home now.
