Yes indeed, SUMMER PALACE is
ALIVE!
Forum regulars know Jerry Namken, just back from Iraq and recently recovering from a bad case of boatitis and knee replacement. Jerry is in the process of replacing his 454 power aboard a 38 Express. The old motors were very well worn, condition unknown, and they were hauled out in favor of a pair of 454 take outs Jerry found by searching around the waterfront all along the eastern seaboard. The find included a pair of nice engines complete with transmissions.
Today I got a message on my Iphone that was left yesterday, with a recording of the port engine running. I could tell from the message Jerry left, the guy is just about recovered from boatitis.
The excitement and enthusiasm on the phone message put a big smile on my face and I send out a big
C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S on behalf of the world-wide Commander Community, and a big
WELL DONE JERRY!
Looking forward to more news, but rest assured, this week-end we all know where Jerry can be found, and thats aboard SUMMER PALACE, which has suddenly come alive, after a nearly 10-year hibernation!
Part of the fun of restoring a classic Commander is the youthful exuberence we all feel when a project comes together. I could hear this in Jerry's voice on the phone, and I worked hard to transfer this phone message to a format that could be placed here on The Forum. Check it out, now this is enthusiasm!
