CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

"Here is Mark Phillips 1970 38 Commander. These later series Commanders are quite interesting because this is the late evolution of the original fiberglass Commander. Fred Hudson designed the first 38 Commander in 1964 along with Bill MacKerer, and in later years Dick Avery, who took over the job as Chief Stylist at Chris Craft, had the duty of modernizing the 38 to keep it competitive in the marketplace. This boat is the result of the modernization the Chris Craft board thought was needed. Every inch of the topsides is different, but the wetted area of the hull is the same. The interior is larger because the sides of the cabin were pushed out to the edge of the boat on the port and starboard side. The cabin roof took on the similar shape of the Avery designed 35 Commander of 1968. The frontal swoop of the cabin looks similar to the 35 but where the 35 has a built in seat, the 38 has a very modernistic windshield. These are fairly rare boats, only 22 were built in the Express configuration, and 49 as a Sedan. We have had three featured here in the pages of The Forum over the years and were thrilled to get a look at this one."
