CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris Craft Commander. Our mission at this independent not-for-profit non-commercial web site is to "have fun and share information" for your individual personal use. Our main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX Files which contain exhaustive photo and technical information on the Chris Craft Commander line (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic 38 Commander designed by Fred Hudson) , (an awesome collection of Chris Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the information in the forum, etc. Be sure to look at the information about the 2009 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander / Roamer Rendezvous, second year in a row at Huron, Ohio, held in August of 2009 !! If you're a Commander fan, this will be an event you won't want to miss next time around.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !"

Hi Mark, and WELCOME ABOARD !

We actually have assembled a LOT of info about this interesting model. It is the end of the family tree on the 38' Commander hull, and an evolution that used styling from the 35' Commander (and some others, of the era). This one is interesting because the original 38 has the outboard walkways, and this one moves the walls of the cabin all the way outboard to the edge of the hull, giving more room inside, but causing a person to walk topsides to get to the bow. Power could have still been the 327, but that seems odd for a 1970 model, but hey, stranger things have happened. I'll have to look at the 1970 production numbers later, as I don't have my CHRIS CRAFT ESSENTIAL GUIDE here, but these are a bit on the rare side I would think. With the Sedan version you have, I'll bet this is one of the largest interiors of any 38 in the series. Mine, for instance being an Express, would seem small inside the cabin.

Here are two links, check em out, enjoy!
You'll find a treasure trove of info about this model.
TAKE-A-BREAK, shown below, bottom photo, is operational now and in exceptionally good condition on the Atlantic side.

Cool boat, by the way.

Regads,

Paul
