Time to move up ( looking at 40 to 57' )February 19 2010 at 9:38 AM

I have been browsing your website for about 5 months now and very much appreciate all your hard work setting up a great forum to discuss great boats.
My reason for writing is I believe it is time for me and my family to buy a large cruiser in addition to our 26' powerboat. I have 2 daughters who are growing up faster than I want. I am hoping this can maximize our time together by incentivising them to invite friends to the boat with us, versus other activities. I have looked at hundreds of ads for boats and am continually drawn to Classic Commanders and Roamers. After far too many hours reading on my own, I decided to go straight to the expert and get some advice. I am looking for a larger boat - 40 - 57 feet. Want something that is comfortable on long weekend runs in my home waters on the Ohio River and can make a run to salt water if wanted or relocate when we decide to move to the coast.
There is a lot of inventory of boats out there currently - almost overwhelming. I am starting to flush out the ones that need work from the ones better cared for. My questions are some ball park prices on major replacement - Engines, tranny, generator, AC, etc. - so I can do some "What if" and "Worst Case" analysis. If there are some threads you suggest, please send. I am not afraid of fixing up - have done it on land for years - just don't know how to compare the ones that need mechanical versus just cosmetic.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. If possible to discuss on the phone, please let me know the best times and method to contact you.
Keep up the good work.
