Because the seller's starting price was $2350. Ebay won't accept less than the starting price for a bid unlees it says "Or Make Offer" on the listing right under the starting bid amount. Even then that is a provisional bid the seller must validate if he accepts it. The first bidder could have bid up to $1 less than the Buy-It-Now price and not tripped out the Buy-it-Now and IF HE IS THE ONLY BIDDER would win it all for the starting price. When you bid you are actually placing a bid that says "My maximum bid is $X" After that it would go like this:
Starting price=$2350 and Buy-it-now=$3250
First Bidder A bids $3249
Result: Buy it now is cancelled and high bid price is $2350
Bidder B bids $2400
Result: Bidder A's bid rises to $2401
Bidder B is notified he has been outbid
Bidder C bids $3500
Bidder A now gets a notification he has been outbid
Bidder C becomes high bidder and high bid is now $3250
Bidder A is PO'd and wants this boat so he waits until 10 seconds before the auction ends and places a bid of $6000, the maximum amount he is willing to spend.
Result: Immediately bidder C is notified he has been outbid but can't type fast enough to get in another higher bid before the auction ends. The winning and final bid goes to $3501 and Bidder A still has himself a bargain.
Doesn't this sound like fun Paul? I bought my 68 GTO on E-bay. I bought my Porsche on E-bay. I sold the GTO on E-bay. I sold my Harley sportster on E-bay. I sold my 77 BMW R100S motorcyce on E-bay. I bought Hasselblad cameras, lenses, new in the box Metz Hasselblad flash unit, played for a couple of years and put'er back on the bay. I bought not 1 but 3 nice German Dual turntables on E-bay, never paid more than $50 for any of them, learned how to restore them and still have them LOL, Shady wants to know what the heck I'm gonna do wit 3 perfectly good turntables... I sold my 17ft Compac Yacht sailboat on E-bay. I bought a Herschede 9-tube bell grandfather clock that Champ's Clocks says is worth 20K for $6500 on E-bay and had it shipped in from CA. I needed a nice dining room set for the cottage up north and bought a 2 month old solid oak dining table, 8 bent-back oak chairs, hutch and china cabinet that cost aroun $2k from a guy in PA for $300 and he loaded it up and delivered it to my sister who lives in Doylestown. I loaded up the kids and we drove there, visited overnight, loaded up the furniture and headed for Michigan. Oh yes- did I mention I bought a nice 1965 Chris Craft 20ft FG Sea Skiff on E-bay? And I only had to drive 5 miles to get it, imagine that... I think of E-bay as Walmart without the Chiang Kai Shek thing...
