This was a last minute snafu I ran into with the IBM 4115 distributor for the 327F in my skiff. The breaker plate in IBM distributor has 2 screws that attach the breaker plate holding it against a shoulder around the major diameter of the distributor body. I was reassembling mine after a total teardown and cleaning when one of these screws refused to tighten. The screws screw into a couple of tiny right angle steel tabs that are held in place by the same rivets that attach the distributor cap bail clip hinges to the outside of the distributor body. One of mine was rusted out and fractured off when I went to tighten it up. I fabricated a new one and got the darn thing attached by drilling off the old rivets and replacing the faulty tab. The distributor plate MUST BE SECURELY ATTACHED or the timing wanders all over the place, points bounce in my cave-man distributor which I refuse to update with Pertronix and the reluctor for the Pertronix may hit the trigger coil if the plate is loose and cocks. The connection is also a ground circuit.
