We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !" Come on in, make yourself at home, we are a friendly group of enthusiasts, and we also appreciate the classic Chris Craft Roamer, Corsair, and Lancer boats too , as they are all on the same family tree and share much in common ! Just start by posting a note introducing yourself to the group, that's all it takes here (we don't ask for or retain any personal information here, because our intention is to just "have fun and share information".
I was worried about the flotation on a 17' wood sportsman, and I did a test by seeing how much weight a single piece of foam would actually hold up, then I started calculating the volume of foam I would need. After doing the test I looked again at that 680-pound chunk of Hercules 95 Model-K and gave it up. I suppose some boats will keep the nose up with trapped air but I would think anything with the amount of iron Chris Craft used would go down like a rock, floatation or not.
Kevin Fitzpatrick hit a crab pot with his wood Chris Craft a few years back, it went down like a rock leaving Kevin, his mom, and I think his aunt too, floating in the water until help arrived. Better to invest in life jackets?
